Low phosphate and nitrate

Not a concern thread. More of an fyi. I set my 235 up in march. I’ve never had a nutrient “problem”, but I have a good amount of fish. Still a bunch to go. I’m just amazed at how these skimmers, etc work these days. This is 10 days of skimmate and still zero nitrates and phosphates, even though I’m grossly over feeding. I’ve never had this “problem” before. I always had excess nutrients and hair algae that I pulled out daily. It’s not a bad problem to have but I’d like to see a little increase in nutrients.

I used to pull hair algae out softball size every few days 15 years ago and that was acceptable as nutrient export. Now I have a completely pristine system free of algae. Nutrients will come in time. Just posting an update.

I find it a little baffling. For so many years we chased zero numbers as a way to keep our tanks clean, and those zero's always seemed elusive.

Now understanding has changed to bacterial driven nutrient export, AND Corals need for nutrients - thus the very related quest is for balanced nutrient numbers - and suddenly the problem is NOT keeping levels above zero.

That and yes, some of the newer equipment is pretty awesome.

Funny how things can change :)
