Low Salinity!

smcnally

Tankless
Damn...With all the crap going on, I didn't think to check my salinity after my water issue the other day. I noticed tonight that my frogspawns weren't as extended as usual, so I checked my salinity...it is at 1.019 (I normally keep it at 1.026). Everything else seems fine so far, but I'm glad I caught it when I did...Mixing water up now to add...

I have rodi water if you need it......

Thanks for the offer, but I have rodi mixing up right now. At least I'll know exactly how much water I lost the other night. I can't believe I spaced out and didn't think of this while I was soaking up the carpet. It seems like this is only affecting my LPS corals. They are all really thin looking right now. SPS and Zoas look fine...Leathers look a little pissed, but not too bad.

that sucks Steve - good thing you caught it though. I guess there's a lot to be said for taking cues from the corals. I always know something's out of whack with salinity when my LPS looks pissed. My open brain is the first one to show it. If only SPS were better at being resilient like LPS!

Steve I had something similar happen and thank God I checked. My return hose where it meets the bulk head was leaking. Over the day the salt was building up on the hose and being white I did not notice. I caught it at 1.020 before it got to bad.

I just happened to notice that it was more than the usual evaporation.

It is crazy all the crap that can go wrong quick.
