LPS Poly Bail Out Opinion

In your opinion what causes this, initially I thought it was day/night temperature swings of >3 degrees Fahrenheit. Is it too much flow, moving around the coral, changing lights? What have you observed to remedy this situation?

I had an issue with lps polyp bailout. Ended up being metal in the water. I kept doing water changes to try and save my lps but was making it worse. I had a cracked and rusting pump in my mixing station. Take the time to check everything. Good luck

What types of LPS? Torch, frogspawn or hammer?

I have been experiencing it with hammers, but lately experienced it with a frogspawn. It’s super annoying and random. I’m not sure if it’s due to placement or addition of a extra flow?

How large is the tank and what kind of wavemakers are you using? How strong is the flow?

its a 22x22x15 tank, originally I had just the return pump running on it and added a jebao wave maker on the lowest settings, my thoughts are

1. Im stressing the LPS frags out by constantly changing their location/placement?
2.I removed the wave maker, so theres barely any flow besides the return pump
3.The tank does not experience temperature swings and is at 78-79 degrees
4.In terms of alk swings, how would I test this?
5. Could it be heavy metals in the tank? I just ordered some cuprisorb

Check the return pump, if it is old and AC power, especially from some brands like Hydor, very likely it release metals.
Also if you have a Titanium heater, it can potentially leak metals in your tank.

What is your alk, calcium and most importantly, magnesium.
In general, lps prefers higher alk in 9 to 10 dkh range, no idea why that is but just from observations. Magnesium is very important, if it is below 1200 ppm, hammers, touches and Frogspawn will not be very happy.
For a small tank like this, checking the parameters frequently is impotent.
