Maxi Jet with Sure Flow Mods rattle and chatter

Anyone else experience a Maxi Jet with modified flows to rattle and chatter? I have a MJ900 that will chatter randomly running off a Wavemaker Pro so it's possibly one of three things, the shaft, the prop or the rubber tips on both ends of the shaft. May have to start off with a good cleaning in vinegar and water and narrow down the problem. Once it starts chattering away it gets annoying.

Mine will rattle and make noise at start up once in a while. If running them on a wave maker I could see how that could be annoying.

Could it be running backwards at the start? I'm not too familiar with the sure flow mods but my original maxi mod did before I fixed the stop in it.

mine had that problem when I had the bigger prop in it...switched out for the smaller (900 gph?) propeller and it stopped chattering, now it only does it occasionally on start-up....fwiw

IF you have the algae free brand mods, they will snap shafts. It's a known problem, contact your retailer for replacement rods.

i konw it may sound stupid but my mj1200 had a loud occasional noise, and i found that i had air bubbles stuck down the shaft part and when i got those out it has been quiet since. just my .02

Both my modded maxi's (2 differnet types) chatter after I plug them in. When I first got one of them it was noisy as hell but after about a week it quieted down...

Wanted to thank everyone for their input to my question of what's causing the MJ with a Sure Flow Mod to chatter. After soaking in vinegar and water for a good cleaning I tested the MJ by powering it off and on and come to find that the prop would run in reverse and chattered. So it's just as APISTOBORELLI has stated, but the stop tab is in no damage. I found the edge of the prop to be worn and will bypass the reverse tab enough randomly to cause the problem. Just a little something to remember the next time an annoying noise coming from the tank. One thing in the hobby is when an unidentified sound from the tank area occurs then finding the cause is a mad rush so any damage is averted.

Can you lower the stop to correct the issue or will you need a new prop?

I think it's best to replace the prop since it's all tattered on it edge. The stop is fine as it is so I'll leave it alone.
