Microbubbles from Sump

Hey everyone, hope your enjoying one of the last weekends of summer. I setup my sump this week and I'm getting an insane amount of microbubbles in my DT. The equipment running is a Lifereef overflow draining through clear tubing straight down to sump, Octopus NW110 skimmer in sump in middle chamber, the skimmer drains to the same chamber and a Mag 5 return in the third chamber. The water from the tank rushes into the sump because it flows straight down, if i put a mesh bag with some carbon on the end of the drain would this help. I figure carbon wont hurt but I think alot of the bubbles are from the water rushing down. Any thoughts? Thanks

a filter sock will clear that right up

The straight shot down might let water gain a lot of speed aggravating the situation. Might also try a ribbed drain tube - like pool vacuum hose, that will slow the water down a bit.
Can you add a foam type filter (strainer) to skimmer outlet?
Oh another idea for a bubble trap is to run the drain hose / pipe into a tallcontainer - like a 1/2 gal milk jug or better - a sacrificial tupperware pitcher. Leave the top an inch or more out of the water and cut many holes in bottom - for water to run out. Play with it a bit to get bubbles to rise in the container and water to run out the bottom.
Search here and elsewhere for a picture.

Cool, thanks I will try the container idea. I just wasnt sure if the filter sock would slow down the flow at all and cause problems feeding the return.
