monthly cost

Lourdes

starting to build !!
Well since I am starting to get my shi* together with the new tank and my husband asked me if I realized the cost of my tank monthly .. I figured around 100 bucks with food. charcoal.water bill.electricity etc ..he said yeah right  he figures it cost him (not me  ) 300 dollars a month this is a 75 g.. can anyone share what thier monthly cost average out to be ..I know some months it's more when I buy corals :D what's your thoughts ... ps this whole conversation started when I was making my case on getting some 150de 20k's to add on the other tank :D

92 gal, 120g sump lights.

Energy alone is 100, food probably another 20.

I really, really try not to think about it.....

like one i said i try not to think about it.between reef tank and koi ponds i would probaly have a heart attack if i figured it out.

I know my electric bill for the tankalone last year BEFORE the new sump an d bigger pumps and added lights was $67-72 a month now add in everything else and higher electric cost I dont even want to think but would say probably 100-115

A 75 gal with all equipment in place and only ongoing maintenance, I would say $100 a month is not that far off.

my electric bill went up about $50.00 - $60.00/ month with the tank. I run 3 250 watt mh, 2 110w vho. It isn't too bad... but then add in the air conditioning and CRAP!, it is really adding up now.

I have a 220 total gallons with 3 250 mh and 100 watts of actinics alond with pumps and misc. things and I am at around $100.00 - $125.00 or so per month

around 125.00 for electric a month. 155 bow

75 gal RR, 2-250w mh, 220w vho, basement sump/fuge, mag 24, reefdart.
About $125-$130 extra electric. The rest I try not to think about.

cost of tank

with 1000w of light between all the tanks electric is 80.$month throw in supplies
25. so for salt tank alone which is 125gal with 350w of light my cost is about 80.
total a month a little less if a skip a water change iam running a calcium reactor and to replace media and co2 it cost about 50. a year or less only other addative is iodine and phytoplankton so my cost are realativly low for the size tank I have.

Funny, my wife and I just talked about this last night as we're planning to upgrade. Using the RC Calculator, we figured about $100 of power/ month for a 120 gallon tank running (2) 250W HQI's and a basement sump. I was suprised to see that the main pump is going to use as much electricity as the lighting

i have a 180 with 3 250 hqi 440w vho, deltic 1250 turbo skimmer, 5 power heads, pm cal.reactor, a mag 9.5 for loop.fuge pump ,a 1200 rio and light for fuge . i am reminded once a month that it is over $200.00.that is the whole house.thank god i got rid of the 75 gal. 20 gal . it was @ $275.00 with the central on.

It is surprising that pumps consume most of the eletricity needed. Seio pumps look very attractive because they use very little electricity (620 is rated 8w). But most water return pumps consume a lot of electricity.

La La La La I can't hear you La La La La

I tried to make my tank as energy efficient as possible.

I have a 120G 4? tank with the following equipment

Return Pump is a Mak4 using 110W. The Mak4 pushings 1182GPH at zero head so it has some push to it for consuming the power that it does.

Circulation is two Tunze 6000?s using 15W each! Considering one Maxi-Jet using 20W the Tunze?s are extremely efficient.

Deltec APF600 skimmer which is gravity feed from my overflow so I only need a circulation pump which is pulling only 21 watts.

Two 250W HQI Reef Optix pendants for lighting powered by the Bluewave XII ballasts.

Once my calcium reactor is working I?ll be pulling a few more watts but nothing huge.

My biggest savings is having a skimmer that only uses 21 watts of power! The initial cost was huge but will pay for itself overtime.

Isn't the cost of electricity in Braintree awesome? I don't want to ever move so I don't have to pay more!
