Montipora paranoia

Icycoral

Did someone say coral?
Hi y'all I have recently noticed a problem with one of my montiporas I think it may be showing signs of attack by montie eating nudibranches

These are pics (bad iPhone pics) of my purple haze monti and I'm not sure if this is what monti eater damage looks like, is a STN prob, or maybe a result of a calc reactor mishap (ph drop) so far it is only on this one monti but I have started fraging dipping and quarintine of all my monti's just in case
Thanks for any help

Could I get some second opinions... I hope I'm just paranoid and over reacting but I have like six pieces of montipora in my tank and would not like to have to replace them or worry about tradeing and giving the little bastards to others if I do in case have them which is what I think happend to me

I don't think it's nudis, I could be wrong, but I doubt it. My Purple Haze seem like they're more sensitive than all my other montis, and spots recede now and then also.

Any chance there is something (softy or LPS) nearby that is stinging it?

No it's pretty isolated nothing else around it, even has it's own rock as I didn't want it to take over too much space as it grows. I did have a little ph mishap about two weeks ago that lasted a week before I got it in check. Although a couple pieces did lose a little color the purple haze is the only thing showing necrosis. My purple monster lightened up a bit but nothing too serious and my Idaho grape cap lost just a little color but it's deeper purple is coming back nicely. All my other acros are looking good otherwise. Will post a pic of the grape cap when my lights come on.

Not sure if you can see it from this pic but the center of the cap is a bit pale and the outer 1/3 is a deeper purple.

As I look at my corals more and more I am starting to feel that I have the answer to my question that this just might be damage from my ph swing as alot of them seem to be showing better color than last week but am not ready to call it yet.

Could be the pH swing. Time will tell. I ask about the LPS on that first one because the damage on the side is similar to what may happen by sweepers from an LPS when you're not looking. They can get very long (the sweepers) and sting your SPS.

Yeah I hear you on the sweeper tenticles. I used a frag of galaxia to take out a patch of mushrooms in my last tank. Very stingy lol but nothing compared to the piece of hydnophora I have, that stuff is just vicious.

PH swing wont really do much if it's within normal range.
But a serious alk swing will cause problems.
Frankly I just think you're being paranoid.;)

Pretty sure my alk stayed close to 9-10 throughout my calc reactor mishap. I would very much like to look back on this and say man I was just plain paranoid lol

If that stayed steady, then I don't think you have any problems.Sometimes the inside of monticap can be a different color than the outside. And obviously the growth ring.
So I think you'll be fine. When my purple cap died from dosing too much alk supplement if basically rtned.Rapid tissue necrosis. The living tissue basically fell off the skeleton.

Thanks stingy but this doesn't look anything like growth color differences. Not sure it rtn as it's kinda dwindling on. I will pos a new pic when I get a chance. I did frag the coral just in case and I wasn't very neat about it.

Been meaning to throw this one out there a fellow reefer mentioned that every once in a while he has gotten a frag of montipora and the new incrusted growth will be fine but the original frag in the center will die off. Sounded a lil far fetched to me but this seems to be what I'm seeing. Anyone ever heard of this?
