Moving 200 gallon system

Hi reefers!!

So, we are in the process of closing on our new house, which is so exciting!!

However - we have dreaded figuring out what to do with our tank

Currently our 200 gallon system (Redsea reefer 750) is sitting on a concrete slab. The new house has a basement and the main living space (where the tank would go) is above the basement. The house was built in 2019 so it’s a relatively new build.

Has anyone dealt with this? Did you have a contractor come out and assess how much weight your floors could hold? Is it worth it?

We are on the fence right now just with how much work it’s going to be, on whether we should just sell everything, sell just the livestock and keep our equipment for a future setup, or figure out how to move it.

what size are the supporting beams under the tank? 2x10 ? 2x12? which way do they run under the proposed tank spot?

I am going to get that information from the sellers as soon as I can, however here’s a picture of the beams from the listing for now. I would make sure the beams run perpendicular to the tank wherever we put it.

It all depends on the placement of where the tank is and the direction of the joists, beams, and lally columns are located in the basement. Joists are more than likely 2x10s. If the tank is going on an outside wall or close to the center beam of the house you might be able to get away with adding some additional support in the basement such as a 2x4 wall. I would have a contractor or engineer put eyes on it if you do not have knowledge about construction. You figure all said and done its 3k to 4k lbs of weight that will be on the floor.

Also I would be weary of moving a large redsea tank and then setting it up again. Redsea does not have the best track record especially with tanks that have been broken down and moved.
