We are moving soon and I'm look for advise on braking down and setting up again.. I've a lot of bad stories and I'm kinda freaking out now lol so if any one has moved a big reef tank with out problems could tell me how you did you move please. thank you
best thing to do is have a temp tank to hold your stuff at the new place so you could transfer the livestock and equipment without issues. take as much of your water over to to new tanks location so you dont end up having to go throw a re-cycle
How much and what are you moving? I have moved a 55g DT 2hrs and upgraded a 90g to a 150g along with changing out out an established old 55g sump/fuge to new 55g sump/fuge with no issues or spikes. Dang now I'm cursed....................
I have a small temp. Tank going hope everything will fit lol. Im braking down a 180 but also up grading to a 335 I have about 150 gal. So far mixed and making a bit more.
But I've heard I wouldn't re-use the live sand heard it could cause a lot of problems is this true???
If you want to go with a different type of sand bed like pink figi or black or what ever I would put a small layer of your old sand like 20%. Of it and then use the new sand if you want?
Marco white sand is what I used, but again all opinion. 180g to 335 is a BIG upgrade. Make LOTS of water and again did I mention make LOTS of water!! Your doing similar to a 50% water change. Agreed on the seeding. However I scooped my 3" sandbed out of my old 55g(5+=yrs old)sump and transfered to new with no issues. Actually added an inch of dead Marco sand to that. But this is my set-up, others can and will differ.
I was going to use the old sand till I did some reading and it funny cause I set this tank up about 1 1/2 ago and I use the sand that was in it and for the first 6 to 8 months I had nothing but problems now I'm thinking it could have been from the LS idk but I went out of my mind lol I really don't want to go thru it again
