MP40 problems

Has anybody had any problems with vortech MP40w's? I have had one a while now, just picked up 2 more used. When I set up one of them, it ran fine a few minutes, and when I was moving it a bit, they separated and rattled around a bit. Now it will just shudder when it trys to run, then I get the red/green stall signal. It attempts to start 3 times, then just stays in stall. It is not a prob with the wet side, as I swapped it with another and it works fine on the other. Any input/experience? Is my dry side smoked?

Do you still have warranty or are they expired? try to unplug it to reset the driver... if that doesn't work you might need to get the controller replaced.
hope this helps... there's not much else you can do if you tried other wet sides to it.

have you tried cleaning both the wetsides you have tested in vinegar?
Do they have the Gen 2 magnets?

I unplugged it several times. It even does this out of the water, with and without the wet side on it.

They are Gen 2, both just came from another reefer who broke bown, he took very good care of his stuff. It worked fine, until I tried to move it and it separated and rattled eround for a few seconds before I could unplug. Nothing
seems to be binding up at all, seems almost like the motor is running on just one pole instead of 2:confused:

Hmmm, it might be smoked Kev. I had a problem with my wetside before but not the driver.

Same here, the wetside wasn't working and rubbing against something and it got fixed.

Do you know if the previous owner still has papers for the warranty? It might be worth just asking about it or contact ecotech about this.

I will be doing both tomorrow, thanks guys.

After swapping out the control unit, and finding it wasn't the problem, I proceeded to completely disassemble the motor. I found nothing visibly wrong, so I put it back together, and now it works fine! I'm guessing something went slightly out of line inside, just a fraction, and rebuilding it straitened it out, as there is a cone shape in the inside of the back housing that the rear bearing sits into, which seems to serve as a centering mechanism for the shaft.
All's well that ends well, and it's still running today!

nice job man! should of snapped some pics lol

I'll have to give you mine to fix...it's doing the same thing :(

when mine was doing that they said it was the wet side and a bad propeller shaft, sent me a replacement for free. Glad to hear that you were able to rescue yours kev, for the amount that these cost, they should fix themselves!

I bough a brand new wetside, (1st suggestion), then a new power supply (second suggestion) no joy on either of them.

With the new tanks coming, I guess I better figure out what I'm going to do with them.
