MrX's 120G Build

Hmmmm... not sure what's up with the double post. Can't edit it either. Strangeness.

This setup was insane and extremely informative. I wish i could do something like you did but my dream tank would be a in wall room divider with sump/refuge in basement so there would be no noise. But like i said before thats just a dream lol

Just have to say your doing a great job with this build!I've been following along just havnt commented much.what do you do for work by the way?seems like you've got a lot of time on your hands!lol!the tank looks awesome!

Thanks guys. I'm a software developer and I work from home. Having a 20 second commute does give me extra time to work on things around the house. :)

I would have liked to put this in-wall somewhere, but that was a little beyond what MrsX would have let me get away with. The hole in the wall behing the tank was "just enough". hehe.

I have no control over this man. If he had wanted an inwall tank that's what he would have done! Sheesh... lol

Went to visit dz6t today and purchased some corals from him: 1x super red acan w/3 eyes, green chalice piece about 2"x3", a rock with pulsing xenia/alien eye palys/desert storm palys on it, an orange ricordia (?) with a green eye. Also picked up my gorrilla nipple zoa frag from beckbrass while I was there.

They are still a little PO'd from being transported and then moved around in the DT a few times. The colors I'm seeing so far are very nice. Good to see some additional life in the tank. I'll try and take some pictures if they perk up tomorrow.

The kids enjoyed seeing all the animals, and I loved all the tanks.

Thanks again Dong and Aaron!

New Marco Rock came in today so I also added a few more pieces to the DT. The rest has gone into the sump for more natural filtration.

Here's some pictures of the corals I got from Dong on Saturday.

I need to get a better camera, this cell phone isn't cutting it.

Sunday we stopped over to visit James (jt628) and he was kind enough to send me home with some sand and a rock with some Purple Palys on it:

He has a very nice setup! The kids loved his fish; DaughterX particularly likes the mandarin.

Tonight I moved the Yellow Tang and Longnose Hawkfish up to the DT. I was going to wait until tomorrow night but when I did a water test there was a slight reading of ammonia (pretty sure due to overfeeding, wanted to make sure these guys were eating well). They are settling into their new digs nicely so far. Glass tops are back on the DT until the stuff for my clear screens comes in tomorrow.

Here's a pic of the DT with all the new corals and new rock-scape:

The stuff for my DIY screen came in today. Put them together pretty easily and got them on the tank tonight.

After I finished that I sat down and cut up some green weed:

Nori, sushi wrap, toasted seaweed! The yellow tang hits this stuff like it's crack! ;)

Tomorrow I'll test out my ALK/MAG with my new Salifert kits. Also need to make sure the QT tank is ready for my LiveAquaria order.

My LiveAquaria order arrived today. Picked up a Halloween Urchin (about 2") and a Yellow Eye Kole Tang.

Floated the bags for a while and then drip acclimated the urchin to the DT water. Right now it's hanging out on the front glass, "hiding" behind FinsUp! coral bag (floating in the DT until she picks it up).

The Kole was floated and then I slowly mixed some water from the QT into its bag. After a bit I tipped the bag and nudged it into the QT.

The existing residents are very active and curious as to what's going on in their home:

*sigh* Double post again. At least I can edit it out this time.

Ok, please frag that Super Red Acan Lord for me, I'll take a head tomorrow at the meeting.

Kidding! Looks great man, I love your livestock choices so far.

Thanks a bunch for letting me get in on your order and floating the bag for me. The goni is all opened.up and looks great! It looks like a flower patch.

The tank is looking great. I can't believe how much the palys I gave you have grown!

Well, once it grows some more I'll hook you up. Of course, I'll have to figure out how to frag things on something a little easier/more forgiving. :)

Anytime. Glad the coral is doing well. Can't wait to see more of your pictures when you find your charger. ;)

See you both tomorrow!

looking great! The yellow tang is beautiful, looks perfect. My tangs eat nori like crazy. You can get the unseasoned seaweed from asian market for very cheap. I got mine from Goden Gate market in Quincy, it was something like 500 sheets for $10.
