Is it possible to cut a green mushroom in half will it is still on liverock so it will turn into two of them? All of the reading i've done talks about cutting it off of the rock and then splitting it up. I'm trying to fill out a piece of liverock with the mushrooms.thanks turbosnail(chris)

Yes you can.
You'll have two in no time.
I just recently went postal on some brown/green rhodactis mushrooms and whatever tissue was left is reforming into mushrooms.
I'm beginning to despise them.

Thanks. I only have two on the rock so I wanted to cover the whole thing.

give it time it will get coverd

Heck you could put them in a blender and then add the mush back to your tank and you will have mushrooms everywhere , you might even become a breeder that way...

I read the post yesterday and i have a lot of blue mushrooms so i decided to do some cutting!!I used two mushrooms one i cut in half trough the mouth and the other in to four pieces all through the mouth... I wonder whats going to happen!!! Was going to one not through the mouth see if it matters!!!!

it doesn't matter if you go through the mouth. any little piece will be a complete mushroom in about a month

Very true.
Anybody that's tried to get rid of mushrooms knows how tough they really are.

So I have a question.

What if you cut to different ones and put them together? Will they grow together to become a new mix one?

Don't think that will work. What happens is each individual piece heals and grows into a mushroom.

I did this with ricordea back in the day. I cut the ric into 4 equal pieces through its mouth. Then I placed some live rock rubble in the bottom of a small clear tupperware. I cut holes and slices in the tupperware lid and placed the rics inside of the tank on the sand bed with the lid. The rics then attached to the rubble and wammo, 4 rics from 1. The only problem is that they were very small and took a long time to grow out...ended up having 2 detach and float away. Lately if 2 mouths form on 1 ric I cut them apart and they seem to do much better. I got the idea from a Pacific East employee at Macna who told me the steps I mentioned only on a larger scale.

and a little fun for all you Slap CHop fans
