my poor naso tang

i never thought a fish can get stuck on a vortech mp40 pump..... until now. i feel so bad for my naso tang. after being stuck on the pump for i don't know how long. i had to push the fish out of the pump. and after i pushed the fish out he had 3 lines on it's side, from the lines of the pump. i can tell he is really stressed. i can imagine he is going to be full of ick tomorrow, probably even dead

maybe the position of the magnet caused a stronger suction in the reduced area?

I've never heard of a fish being sucked on unless they were asleep and/or too sick to swim away. Was he looking sick prior to this?

+1 I would have to agree with Edward

i had a feeling it wasn't normal for a fish (especially a big one) to get stuck on a powerhead. he doesn't look sick to me. and he wasn't sleeping. i guess it's time to check my water parameters. i know its been close to a month i have not fed nori and/or seaweed. could that be causing him to be weak and sick? the reason i have not been feeding nori or seaweed is because feeding clip is stuck in back of my live rock. so it is impossible to get it

Tangs swim a lot so they need a lot of food/energy. Use a rubberband and a small rock if you can't find the nori clip.

My naso eats it right out of my hand. or I just throw a few small pieces right into the tank.

Naso's need constant food, so unless your tank is an algae farm they will wither and die. I Would also feed a regular diet of Mysis and other meaty treats

For now just put it in the LR and put a piece of rubble on it, or use a small piece of LR and an elastic.

But get a new clip and tie it to some fishing line. Then tie it to your stand and throw it in. Makes for easy feeding and you don;t even get wet.

Another thing you can do it use a algae magnet to hold the Nori just pull the magnet away fro the glass a little and slip the Nori in

I kept breaking the nori clips so now I use the little window scrapers from Home Depot. Instead of a razor blade, I put a piece of nori in there and snap it shut. It has a nice hole on the other end to attach a piece of string so I can raise and lower it in the tank. Plus, when I clean my tank I can still use it to scrape algae off the glass.

he is looking alot better today he eats like a pig. i just havent had the chance to take apart the rock work to get the clip but i did today. i need to get my garlic exream from my mom to see if that will help him fight what is going on. right now he is swimming but very slow.do you think that will help him out or not? i have a 30 gallon tank that is tied into my 120 should i put him in there for now?

I would think that moving him would put even more stress on the fish. It's too bad, i saw this beautiful fish when i picked up a few frags from you. I am no expert, but If he is eating now, i would keep feeding him. I have used garlic in the past, crushing up fresh garlic, and using the oil to cover the sheets of algae to feed, I do not know if it actually helped or not, but it didn't hurt either. I hope the fish makes a rebound, i have heard that the naso tangs are one of the most hardy fish of all the tangs- Good Luck-

I wouldn't move him be even more stressful putting him a small tank like a 30g. I would feed him Nori and Mysis to build his strenth back up

How long have you had the Naso?

i figured putting him in a different tank is going to stress him out more. but i figured i should at least ask other peoples opinions. i think we have had the naso for about 2 months

Do you know the origin (where it was collected from) of the Naso? Depending on where it is from and what the collection process was, can have a huge impact on it's survival rate. Cyanide collected fish have a dismal survival rate and can just die off after a month or two, after seeming to do well.

I am sorry but the fish is not going to doing well because she was not responsible to provide a staple in the fishes diet, because she was lazy or did not want to buy a $2 food clip, is animal cruelty. Comment removed She has a responsibility to care for the animal and she is not, and that started when she placed the fish into a 4ft tank.

first of all the food clip was in back of the tank for only 4 days. and the naso tang doesn't even eat anything from the food clip since the first day i got him. which my blue tang was the same way but as i continue it started to pick at the food on the clip. i didn't know me not feeding it seaweed for a couple of days made me cruel. the least thing i am is cruel. i feed my fish all variety of frozen foods. and i don't appreciate you talking about my son. he has nothing to do with my this hobby so please do not talk about him

i do agree a 4ft tank is not suitable for the naso when he gets older but i do plan to upgrade to a 6ft tank in the future

right now i am making some nice fish goo. contaning a bunch of different kind of frozen food and additives including SEAWEED AND NORI
