Neal's SPS & ZOA/PALY SYSTEM Coral & Livestock pics thread...

Pallobi,

Since you are running bare bottom, do you feed your corals at all? Do you target feed the lps and zoas?

i do not feed my zoas or lps (chalices)... i do wana start feeding my chalices though... maybe once a week, see what happens, ive heard they do alot better when fed... the miami hurricane is doing really well, and forming 11 new eyes right now, and is almost 3.5" a round...

not the best pic by far, but the miami hurricane chalice with its feeders out at nite, sometime last week... hard to see, but you can get an idea...

took a pic of my orange monti that took quite a beating... then i almost gave up on it, put it in my sump for a couple weeks, then when some room free'd up, i decided to keep it... so i thought i would document its progress while i was at it, as it hopefully rebounds...

finally cleaned the sides of my tank... i havent cleaned the sides of any tank in well over a year... its nice to have no vortechs or algae/corraline there now...

Lookin good man!!! Love the long shot of the front row. The monti's are tough as long as you keep your parameters in check that will come right back.

thank you and thank you :)

i am hopefully getting a nice frag of captain americas today too :)

and i am hopeful and confidant the monti will be fine, it already looks better, that pic was actually from late last week... so we are in business i think ;)

a random pic of some live rock i have had "cooking" and curing for the last 4 or 5 months... i have 10 nice large peices, i am planning on using sometime soon for a new project... not sure if it will all be used, might jus go with the 6 nice peices of fiji rock i have... and utilize the other 4 peices in a filtration only capacity... i am moving at the end of this month (was supposed to be last week) and i am in the initial thought process of planning a new system... or if nothing else, and addition to my current system... i am looking into acquiring a cube, or perhaps another breeder tank... but i have some thoughts, and this rock will be used...

a new pic of my newest addition... captain america paly... a pretty large and fat polyp... currently opening up now and in this pic... the left side is folded over the right side at the moment, but it seems to be getting comfy slowly but surely...

a couple new pics of a miami hurricane chalice... there are now about 15 new eyes coming in... growing pretty good at this point...

the one thing i like about growing zoas and now this chalice on these tiles, is the entire outer edge, all the way around, is a growing edge... seems like when these things get goin, they do real well... im looking forward my red watermelon to grow out... if all is good in a month or two still, i will add another one or two... i was not able to get the cornbread i was supposed to, at least not yet... but im looking forward to more chalices, and perhaps a couple larger polyped favias...

Just letting you know that your tank is awesome. Very different, definitely not your "average reef tank". Looks killer!

thank you very much :)

i try to give the corals their space to grow, and try to focus on each and every one... which plays well into my approach to displaying them i think...

i appreciate your interest...

not the best pic, and i had to move it back out of the direct flow of the mp40s... 24 hours later, and it seems to be much more relaxed and comfortable... you cant see the color in the pic, but it is actually quite nice for a captain america... i dig it ;)

and some more polyp pics for the day... but first, all these pics from today were taken with only 4 bulbs on (except the chalice pic)... 2 blue plus, 1 aquablue special, and one purple plus...

my new bulb configuration is as follows...

blue plus
true actinic
blue plus
purple plus
aquablue special
blue plus
true actinic
blue plus

im pretty happy with it right now... i would not normally use the true actinics and i had a 2nd aquablue special recently (used to use 3), but decided to go back to some true actinic bulbs to see if i liked any difference...

but anyhow, back to the pics, which more didnt even have the actinics on, lol... and are whitewashed quite a bit, sorta speak...

and an okay at best, pic of my clementines... its hard to get a good shot of anything that is not 6" from the front glass (still using the phone camera)... this one sits about 10 to 11" back... the fourth polyp to the middle right is new since ive gotten it, and there are two more forming to the left side/back... they are still small, and have some plumping up to do, and their color and shape are a bit outta wack, but so far, the growth is a good sign... a few months, they should be a nice small colony that is off and running... *fingers crossed*
