and a closer look at my sump... which was cleaned up a bit this morning since i had issues and had to do a few things to it... the pile of tiles, which im not sure is very noticable is no longer in there, and like i said, the heater is no longer there as well... i will get a new one sooner than later for sure... my display is fed with a mag 9.5 as well as another mag 9.5 which feeds my "fuge" and reactors... however, its all plumbed together and blocked off with ball valves... my reason for this is, if i should ever have to remove one of the pumps for whatever reason, i will still have one that can feed all three components without issue...

also, the white pvs adaptor you can see jus to the right of the return line on the right, which is coming out of the inner wall of the sump through a bulkhead, is the return for the reactors... they are off in this pic... i do this so i can visibly see the amount of flow that is coming through them and i cant tell when the pressure is and flow through them is low, so i know when they need to be cleaned... works out really well imo :)

not the best pics of it as a whole, but you'll get the jist :)

Looking good,Neal
With that set up there's definitely nothing to block flow.
That's one of the biggest hassles with lots of LR in the tank.
Gee,you must be right over the border from me.

and these are my zoas i have at this time... again, i recently sold off most of my colonies and i am starting over... i kept a nice frag of each of the ones i really liked, and i am now being very picky of which ones i add to my collection from here on out... obviously the ones with jus a few polyps are very new, and have jus been added or the colonies have been started over from some i sold off...

i have about 12 different ones at this time, and again i apoligize for the phone camera quality, as it does the colors no justice...

also, a few of these were moved around quite a bit until i had them where i wanted them, so a few a closed up... but ill get more pics as we go of course :)

candy apple reds and my new magicians (which i got as one polyp and now have 4 new ones growing)

IMAG0697-1.jpg

my rastas, which i got about 6 weeks ago and are starting to finally grow out, but seem to be taking off now... i had started with about 6, i now count about 12 or 13, so i am very very happy about that... obviously some are on the back side that you cant see...

and i am not sure which these orange ones are, but i love them (they are ones i held on to) and my candy apple pinks... again, pics dont do the color justice by any means...

Red People Eater
Sunny D

there maybe a couple more to be added in the next week, but as of now, this is all...

thank you for the compliment :)

I probably wont frag anymore zoas for a couple months at least... however, do have a couple more now, and a couple of them werent listed cuz they werent ready imo... i'll see how they are in a few more days closer to the meeting and perhaps ill post them ;) either way, when i frag some up the next time, your more than welcome to come by if you would like...

ok, so the following is jus a simpe pic to show how my reactors' return works... again, i have it as a visible return so i can see exactly how much flow is going through the reactors... this way i can tell when the media and reactors need to be addressed and/or changed... this is a pic from today after they got a good cleaning and the media was replaced...

and no, i do not worry or care about micro bubbles whatsoever ;)

Great looking system nice and neat!

That is why this hobby is so interesting. There are no "set in stone" instructions. There are so many ways to have a successful set up. Nice set up Neal. Don't know if you answered this yet, but what kind of tiles are those? Ceramic?

thank you very much for the input and kind words... yes, they are jus basic, unglazed ceramic tiles from lowes or home depot... :D

they are about 7 bucks for 36 of them...

A pic of the strawberry shortcake acro I received from Cultivated Reef a few weeks back... also got the ATL Limeade acro previously pictured then and from there as well... looks much better than the pic shows, but its still got plenty of coloring to go I think... sweet frag though, I am very happy with my purchase from them...

I love your use of the frag tiles to raise and lower the coral to adjust flow and light. What are you using for the tiles? generic home improvement tile?
the added flow from no obstructions has to make the system very clean. Im loving the pics.

I couldn't edit my first post, so by the tile question i mean, is there any ones you think i should avoid? I have seen the flats at home depot but i wasnt sure about their makeup.
that must be the cheapest way to get a pile of frag plugs i ever saw. Great use of a non hobby item for a striking display.

Cant wait for more pics and updates. This is one inspiring setup. Very different than mine, but different is a good thing.

thank you for the kind words... they are greatly appreciated Jarrod :)

they are jus the basic 6x6 packed, 1' squares on the netting... i have some from both home depot and lowes, though i like the home depot ones better, they jus look more natural imo, unfortunately more are the ones from lowe's...

they are jus plain ceramic in make up... they might something else in them, but i havent looked into it, nor have i ever "cured" them... however i have never noticed or had any ill effects from the lowe's ones whatsoever, so i jus continue to do it the way i have been... i did noticed a little more algae growth for the first 2 weeks of using the home depot ones, but jus on the tiles themselves and no where else in the tank, so perhaps they could have used a little curing period, but even if i use them again, i may not even bother, it was no big deal imo... however if you ever decide to use them for any reason, you may want to consider it... i have one heck of a cleanup crew (15 large turbo's) in my display, and very very low nutrients, so i basically dont worry about algae at all... though i seem to get a bit of algae growth on my frag plugs as its not too easy for the large turbo's to navigate their way through frags and racks alike due to their size... imo, a tank without any algae growth whatsoever, is NOT a healthy system...

thank you again for the compliments... i really do get mixed reviews to say the least, however the negative one's arent usually put public on a forum... some people jus cant get past the fact that i am different and seem to be having some degree of success and insist i am doing things all wrong (little live rock, no bacterial supplement or dosing like mb7, vodka, or bioplellets, no calcium reactor, and jus the all around hands on, basic approach i take)

again, some people jus dont like my approach, and that is there choice... so it is very much appreciated when folks like you and the many others who have chimed in here, appreciate my husbandry and ideas... THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH! :)
