i'm looking for a pump to replace my current return pump wich is a danner mag12.
i'd like to find somthing with a little more gph but that uses less than 110 watts so i can cut down on my tanks electric bill.
i was looking at water blaster pumps wich use a little less power but it seems that the gph fall off prety quickly as the head hight goes up compaired to mag drive pumps and i'm wondering if this is going to be a comon trade off with the lower watage pumps.
sugestions????

As soon as I saw the title I was thinking WaterBlaster. I've ran a HY5000 and HY3000 and love them. Also have you looked at the Reeflo Blowhole pumps. How much flow and head height are you looking for? Can it be external?

i'm looking at the hy7000 but it drops way down around 800gph at 5ft head hight and the mag 12 claims to still push 1100, i wish i kew if that was acurate or not. i don't know how much i'm geting now but i know i don't want to loose 200-300gph

i think the difference in head presure is due to the mag drive pump having a 3/4in outlet and the blaster has a 1 inch, you loose alot more head presure pushing a 1 inch pipe than 3/4

I will be following this thread as I am wondering the same thing.

Actually with the mag drive pumps you need to run 1.5" pipe to get the claimed GPH and head loss numbers. If you run the 3/4" pipe that matches the output you will get a lot less out of them. In general they are terrible in terms of head loss if you don't use that larger pipe.

How much head are you dealing with?

i have about 5ft head hight but i plan to split the output of the new pump with a manifold to feed a 65 & a 40 breeder from the same 55g sump/pump

i just opend up my new reef octopus sro 2000 w/bubble blaster pump and it looks prety impesive, good quality build all around, this is definetly swaying me tward the water blaster for my return pump
