Need Advice - Spiny Box Puffer had his fins eaten- what do I do?

I bought a Spiny Box Puffer from a store, because he was a hard luck case. He had been in a tank with someone who had eaten his dorsal, tail and pectorial fins. I brought him home, and put him my QT with Melafix and StressCoat to help him out. A week Later he started to eat Formula One with Vit.C and immune boosters from the gel pack. So I moved him to my display tank and he is "swimming" around okay and isn't bothered by anyone, but I am worried he won't grow his fins back.
Anyone with advice or experience please help me out.
Thanks

I had a clown fish that had her fins eaten by another fish and they grew back over time. I'm not sure about a puffer.

I would have kept it in the qt with the melafix. That stuff works miracles over a little time. I had the same problem with a powder blue and after about 3 weeks it was good as new.

If it's eaten down to the bone it won't grow back, but if there is a little left it will grow back.
