Neon orange skim

I've never seen this color in collection cup. Tested water nothing seems off from normal. I'm assuming it's because I had to go to my emergency flake food. I used this food at the start of the tank. only recently added a skimmer and have been using pellet food the entire time I've had the skimmer. The glowing neon orange puzzled me.

Just making sure it's nothing bad, opinions?

Yup. Idk what it is. But the collection cup was almost filled to the top this morning. Everyone seems to be accounted for and looking happy, so nothing has died.

You're probably right about it being in the food. Do the flakes glow under blue light?

I'll have to check. Only fed them once with it to make sure they ate. I'm getting more pellets tonight and doing a water change. Think I'm going to toss them cause I'm pretty sure the flake food was the source of my algae problems in the beginning as well.

I agree it was probably the food. Soak them in water and see if you get the same color.

Do you use GFO? If it also somewhat looks like rusty orange and you do use GFO, then it might be pulverizing. I recently encountered my GFO pulverizing more than usual despite tge flow thru the reactor is gentle. I noticed my filter socks being brownish/orange on a daily basis and my GFO would be 1/4” below the mark I made on the side the previous day. Im done with GFO for now.

Looks like what I used to get when rinsing GFO prior to bringing on line. Looks like too big of a side effect of a few feedings of flake which would have been eaten by fish . Its very Suspicious.....

I used it for a few weeks about a month back. Was little packets. I made a temporary in tank refugium and then took out the gfo. They where small and hard to see I wonder if I missed one. I didnt think of that.

Found a packet that fell behind the skimmer. So it very well could have been that based off what what was said. Thank you!
