hay guys i have an old 25 gallon tank and i want to make it in to a salt water tank. what do u guys think i need to get it goin.

I would recommend that you get a good book first and read up.
Bob Fenner's"The Conscientious Marine Aquarist"got me on the right track before I even started to purchase stuff.

1+ on all that was said. One other thing you need to think about(and I made this mistake) is a 25 is kind of small if you are just starting out. People go smaller, but they REALLY know what they are doing and if you, like me, are new, you are going to crash your tank if you don't do it right the first time. Please do yourself a favor and be patient. I wasn't and haven't (knock on wood) crashed my tank yet, but I did get an established tank. If you have always wanted to get a salt set-up like I always did, you are going to be throwing a lot of money, like I did, down the drain. You probably will, once all is said and done, be spending over a grand on all this stuff to do it right. This all does, though, depend on what you want to do. Fish only, Fish with live rock, or full reef. I agree with Bob, read up first, go to a nice local fish store, and enjoy what they have and then decide what you want to do. I only say this to give you a head's up on what is coming. I do have to say, all warnings aside, it really is worth it. It is STUNNING to see what can grow in a fish tank!

LR, sand, heater, skimmer, powerheads, salt, testing equipment, lighting, patience

agree with all of the above, but especially patience. Money doesn't hurt, either ;)

Listed in order of things I would want if I were to start all over again without previous knowledge...

1) Research < I didn't do enough before we jumped in

2) Patience < I still struggle here, but I am way more patient now

3) Reef Ready tank first time around, that way you don't have to get an overflow box then scrap everything to go with a reef ready tank down the road. < Trust me...been there done that

4) Buy quality equipment, I'd rather wait till I can buy the quality piece instead of buy the cheaper not so good now then buy twice when you get the good stuff < Once again, been there done that, buying once is cheaper then buying twice

5) $$$$ doesn't hurt < Electric bills, supplements, fishfood, corals, fish....ect are $$$$$$$$$$. You don't have to be "ballin" to have a reef tank, just know when you can spend and when you can't so you don't end up in trouble

I like the dwarf zebra lionfish, very cool to watch IMO
Im not sure if they are reef safe though....... you would have to check it out.

Is a lion fish in a 25g a good idea? You prob need a way bigger tank for that.
