Wanna document and do this all right this time. Just scored a 60 gallon cube and stand from a Sponsor.

Sanded and painted the stand when we got home. Kids are helping with this project

Think the plan will be drill it for 2 3/4 inch returns. Looking for opinions on this?

Flow will be 2 mp10s on the back wall and dual returns.

Thinking of going with a Jabeo DC return pump.
Being a cube and sump choices limited I will be going with a trigger systems 18" cube crystal sump.

Skimmer is still kind of up in the air and well as what lighting will be.

Im following along. Look up the skimz skimmer for nanos. Bulk reef has them and they rate it for 130g. It has a jebao dc pump to it to its awsome im buying it this thursday

Will do. Thanks. Need opinions on the return before I order. Should I do one or two

Can always just plumb lock line up and over instead of drilling
Nice looking tank, what do you have planned

You can do 2 it will give you flow on either side of the box. When you split the return use a y in stead of a t. Bulk reef also sells those

a single 3/4 drain will allow about 200 gph each maybe less . I know they rate more like 400 but most can tell you t his is likely only true in ideal conditions.

Wet Web media tested this and got 165 got for the 3/4 drain. So if you find that sufficient flow then the two 3/4 drains will work.

The other thing I've experienced is that those overflows are noisy and difficult to tune. Others will disagree with me and I would like to state that I have little experience with them. however when I messed with one the 2 problems I encountered were 1. The narrow box does not allow for one to adjust stand pipe height leaving a waterfall significant enough to hear. 2. Using the exterior plumbing in the kit is not sufficient to reduce/eliminate an amount of gurgle from the pipe. A member I trust suggested that a well build exterior durso will fix that and the theory is sound.

I would consider building my own overflow box as I'd be able to allow space for an elbow to adjust pipe height in the wet side. If noise is a consern consider a 3rd hole for a bean animal style flow. Good luck

Light is still kind of up in the air.

I have a nice live rock tower type structure that I got off troopah on here. About 16" tall with shelves so plan on putting that on one side and doing all SPS on it. Then using more of the live rock from my current tank to make a structure on the other side. Not going to have them touch so there is a lot of swimming room for the fish and open look.

The wife got me a 100 gift certificate to bulk reef and they have the vertex 130 on sale for 249 so I would only have to actually spend 150 on it so that's an option at this point.

Stock Wise.

I have a pair of Platnium clowns I just got
A Coral Beauty that I have
Bi-Color Blenny that i already have as well.
More than likely Cromis cause my little one calls them "her favorite fish"

I already have a top off.

Any one have a vertex skimmer?

Ok so I have basically decided after having built sumps and the crappy dimensions making choices limited I am going with a trigger systems sump. They have a 18x18 crystal cube sump and a 20x20 ruby cube sump that comes with built in probe holders as well as a little bigger. Decisions decisions.

Now I am nervous about the drain being loud as stated above.

Placed and order last night from Bulk Reef Supply.

-Reef Octopus 110int skimmer
-Sicce 2.0 silent return pump
-3/4 inch true union swing check valve
-5ft red PVC for the return.

Wouldn't u want more of a turnover rate between your sump and your dt? Maybe like a mag 9.5 or something?

Everything I read on the 700 gph glass holes over flow that was the good choice. I will also be running two mp10s for flow. On my last 60 cube I had a little stronger pump and had to dial it down

oddly enough...i'm in the baby stages of putting my 60g cube build together as well, i just have a problem with my bulkhead holes as you may have read in my other thread.

funny part is, i also purchased a Reef Octopus 110 nwb in sump skimmer and a Sicce 2.0 for my return pump. i will be using an MP40wes as a powerhead...coupled possibly with a koralia or an MP10wes on the other side of the tank, but we'll cross that bridge when i come to it.

the sicce 2.0 will be PERFECT at 4 feet of head at just around 350gph...turning over the tank about 6x/hour. anything more than that and you're just asking for excessive noise/trouble.

which did you decide on for a sump? i'll just be using a 10 gallon for equipment, even though i tried to think of pretty much ANY other way that wouldn't cost me a fortune...but i'm finally going to make use of my 24" cpr HOB refugium and keep that for macro algae and a deep sand bed of sorts.

i'll start a thread on my 60g build as soon as i figure out this problem with my drill holes and get my bulkheads to seal...that way we can compare and contrast. in the meantime, i'm hooking up my new apex gold on my 30g JBJ...lol.

It's is a deep blue cube you bought you will bet best to replace the bulkheads. The stock ones are not good. Google it and you will see a ton of issues with them. I had a deep blue and issues till I replaced them. For a sump I am ordering the trigger systems ruby 20" cube. 319 but I am sick of not having he room and what I want.
