new sump & sand for fuge question

I have 15lbs of black sand (carib sea?) that is dried out. It'll need to be rinsed before I place it into my newly plumbed sump which is still empty of any water. My question is...

1. will the sand create any trouble for my display tank if i introduce it immediately after rinsing it?

If you can rinse it with ro/di and then with your tank water.
You'll probably get a diatom bloom for a while. But,that shouldn't last more than a week at best.

It is new sand or sand that has been used in a reef tank before?

I doubt it will have any effect on the DT, its only 15 lbs of sand. Not really sure if 15 lbs of sand would be enough to really make any difference on a 58 gallon tank.

Lets say I entertained the safe route, because I have ball valves on all the drain/return plumbing. I could just have the sand sit in my sump, 3 chambers... running the water in a loop for a few weeks. Doing water changes with the water from my dt. I'd like a seamless transition.

can anyone else chime in with a mathematical effect? or experience with these ratios of water/sand

if your sand is dry...it is dead....rinsing in water a few dozen times should get rid of dead matter. Once the water is clear, I would just plumb it in and let it run to the DT. If you are able to add a cup of sand on top of the fresh rinsed sand, it will help jump start the sand. But even without, it will liven up without issue. I wouldn't worry so much about 15lbs.

+1. i don't think there is a need to use ro/di water though as said earlier
