New Tunze 6045 Nanostreams on the way

cobraz

Zoa Pirate
Well I have two on their way by Fedex today.

I will give a full report once received...

First opinions;

Easy to assemble, but the "C" bracket has 4 small clips that go into the magnet and they break really easy - case in point - I bought two and one was broken. I talked to Roger at Tunze and they rushed a bracket out to me in 3 days. They also have had many reports of the same issue.

The flow of the Nanostream 6045 is rated at 1,189 gal/hour, but compared to a Hagen is rated at 400 gal/hour - I feel that is certainly under powered in flow force output (not flow rate). It's dispersement is wider but far less force than I anticipated.

I am running 2 of these in a 36" long 65 gallon tank and although it is reasonable, I would have gone with the larger model, the nanostream 6055.

The specifications on the Nanostream 6045 are the following:
For aquariums from 26 to 53 gallons.
Flow rate 1,189 gal/hour.
Energy consumption 8 W.
Dimensions Dia 2.7"
Output Dimensions Dia 1.5"
Price $70.00 to $90.00 shop around.

Advantages:
Magnet holders and No suction cups.
Rotation of direction.
Smaller footprint than a Hagen 70 or Seio.
Completely clean and no way to loose fish or small inverts.
Very quite.

Disadvantages:
Flow force is marginal - biggest reason for using powerheads.

Thanks for the review. I was supprised to hear that you received the 6045's since I thought they hadn't shipped to the USA yet.
If you feel you need more flow I'm sure you could sell those pretty easily as they seem to be creating a lot of industry 'buzz'.

Anyone seen the new Polario pumps? I'm waiting for those to come out before I consider an upgrade to my modified maxijets.

Ive had one in my tank since thursday. I personally like the flow pattern and force. Granted its not forceful but enough for me. What I really like is the design. the "death star" design allows for practically any position and the magnet mount allows you place it where every you want. Ive got another on order now that I know. I had a maximod running with my returns but I couldnt have 2 running at the same time unless I wanted a sand storm(mods push alot of water). uni-direction flow is undesirable in my opinion. nanostreams are super quiet too! Overall I really like the 6045...its a great product by a great company. I think this unit line is an evolution in power heads..

I talked to roger and he told me that due to the increase in complaints of broken clips they have changed the way they make them. They are now molding them in a lower temperature and are not using the glass fiber which was making them brittle. They are still made out of lexan. I had some clips come in broken and he sent me the improved braket and I must say that they feel stronger. Before you could wiggle the clips and feel that they were going to break. Now they feel sturdier. You should still handle them carefully. Roger only got in 100 of the 6045 so the wholesalers were in short demand and didnt really fill out all there orders. Sea creature in North Providence got 6 in last week. Sold them all in a day. He will have some in the comming weeks so look for a thread on his forum.

One more item - the 6025s and 6045s can not be used on wave makers according to Tunze... I did try mine on a 3 minute on/off wave maker and it seemed fine, I do not know what the long term effect would be.. since I have it plugged in directly to the AC now.

I was very interested in the Polario pumps also, the features seem too good to be true, but I am a bit scared off by the introductory price. They are taking pre orders in the UK for estimated February delivery. The price is $190 USD. Taam/Rio just does not have the right kind of history with me for that kind of expense. I will probably wear out a nanostream before I feel ready to personally take the chance with a high tech Rio.

hummm, Tunze product or Rio product???? not a tough decision for me. I wouldnt buy it if it were 1/2 the price of the Tunze unit.
