Newbie Class 5-16-09 in Grafton, MA

JayM

Is the algae gone yet?
BRS Member
Bill Nichols has graciously agreed to let us have a newbie class at his cookout on 5-16.

This is a great opportunity to learn some reef basics, and mingle with other BRS members in a very informal setting.

http://www.bostonreefers.org/forums/showthread.php?t=80427 is the post with the meeting details. Please post here if you're coming, and potential topics you'd like to see covered....

Let's strive for better newbie attendance than my last announcement. :D

Would this be the first time Corey.:D
If new folks want to bring some water I have a Hanna Phosphate meter. Maybe we do water test station.

can i say " sexy " ? without offending anyone? Because any person with a phosphate meter is just plain sexy!!!!!!!!! lol i'm j/k guys. :)

Anyone? Anyone?

seemed like a good idea.....

I have a 40th B-day party to go to in Burlington @ 7, I might be able to swing it.

I'll be there Jay, but the Horseshoe pit, food and beer might keep me distracted.

but if this does happen, I'll be sure to attend the class portion.

Just don't understand it. Everybody wants newbie classes. Jay takes the time to set them up and all he gets are excuses about why people can't come. If I was Jay I'd be a little pissed off and just say the hell with the classes if people don't even care enough to come. Just my .02 worth.

Im sorry didnt mean to turn 40, or could just do like other people and say I will be there and not show up. I have 4 kids, from 6-17, I would love nothing better to do than go to Grafton and throw some shoes, and attend a Q&A. Im not aware of your situation, but some people do get busy on the weekends. I would love to go to a newbie class every weekend, and I do appreciate Jay for giving up his time for one, But im sorry I need more than 1 week notice. I would be willing to talk to Jay, or anyone for that matter, and drive to there house at a time that would work for the both of us. Just my .02

It's OT, but the next one will probably be on 5-30 at Mauro's for those who might wish to attend one with more notice.

FWIW, I only added this class as an option as an effort to try and combine a scheduled get-together with a newbie class because of prior criticism about members having time issues with committing to multiple BRS events in the same month. It's as much about hanging out and talking about the hobby as anything else, and no one person should feel singled out. After all, at the end of the day, it's just a freakin' fish club.....

what time will the class be. i'm def coming to the cookout, but i have to work until 4. i'll be there by 5 530 hopefully. if no one wants to do take the class and you don't mind waiting til i get there to do it, i would def be interested in learning some stuff. the more info i can get the better. i'd like to learn about some coral parasites if we could. i would just like to know what to keep any eye out for and stuff like that.

This was not meant as a personal attack on you or anybody else. Just a general observation. FYI I realize people have lives beyond their tanks. I'm just don't think it's fair for Jay or anybody else to attempt to host a newbie class and have no one show up. It would piss me off and I'm a pretty mellow person.

...and everyone knows how low key I am

I'm not sure what time it's going to be held, but the later it goes, the more likely it's going to be that my kids are burnt.

I'm open to suggestions, based on who is coming, and when they are coming.

Thanks for the plugs Bill....I'll make sure I make your keg much lighter as a 'thank you' :D

I think the frustration lies in that I want to go to a "newbie class", but dont have the time for it. I believe if I give my word that im doing something I am going to do it. I dont want to say I will be there and not show up. I dont want to waste any members time, I have gotten alot of help from members on these boards, and I have the utmost respect for Jay. The first meeting I went to, Jay was the first member to introduce himself, and stood and talked with me. He offered to help me with any questions I might have, and he has. I look forward to meeting some members, and learning a few things. I didnt mean to come off like a jerk, even though I know I did. Its just that Im new here, and didnt want anyone to feel like I didnt appreciate any help that they have given me. I hope the cookout is a good time, and hopefully I can make it to the next one.

Derek

Looking for a head count please. Post here or PM if you can come, and when you will be there. Notice...the later you come, the more likely I will be breathing hops fumes on you :D

j/k :p

;)

Don't worry Jay just put a full one on tap and have a backup on reserve.

Well, this was an absolute blast! Thanks to Mike and Brian for being my newbie class guinea pigs....100% better attendance than the first one....
