Anyone have a nigger trigger in a reef tank? I found one that is only about 1 1/2" long and was wondering if it would be ok in a reef. I dont have any corals in that tank yet but maybe someday I will.

It depends on your definition of "reef safe" I have had Bluethroat Triggers and crosshatch triggers and they are generally considered "reef safe" but I would not keep shrimp with them. Other then that all 3 triggers I have had never touched any corals or inverts other then my one blue throat that would occasionally pick on shrimp so I just never kept any.
I had a niger trigger in my mixed reef and never had a problem just got to big for the tank.
It is almost like asking about angels in reef aquariums which I am a big "fan" of angels. I have a blue throat as well as a niger in with shrimp right now and no problems. They're only about 4 inches now, down the line it could become a different story. Triggers that I consider "reef safe", blue throat, sargassum, cross hatch, niger and pink tails.

I was hoping to get a male/female trigger pair sometime next year for the newer big tank. Crosshatches can be very expensive but have a great color/pattern. From what I have read, the most luck people have had are with Sargassum, Blue Throat triggers, Crosshatch, and Niger triggers. I'm not familiar with Pink Tails. I'll probably end up with either a pair of Sargassum or Blue Throats. It may be hard to find Crosshatch and Sargassum triggers. They seem more rare. I see Blue Throat and Nigers all the time.
Be cautious. Make sure it is 'blue throat' not 'blue line'. They are different. Blue Lines can be aggressive, AND they can get huge. The mentioned so-called 'reef safe' triggers are in the 12" range at full size.

I was just looking at a couple blue throat triggers at Skiptons today---they definitely love to swim,even more so than tangs. Beautiful fish though.

well I dont plan on getting any shrimp... I dont seem to have luck with shrimp. Every cleaner I get just disapears no matter what tank I have it in.... So after 5 or 6 times of paying anywhere from $15-$30 I'm done with them....
