nominations for July's Tank Of The Month (TOTM)

Nuno,

Although I (and I'm sure many others) have not voiced our thoughts on your "thankless" job, let it be known that I greatly appreciate all the hard work you've put into TOTM.

I don't think anyone else would be more perfect for the job. I thoroughly enjoy your pictures and write-ups.

Don't quit! Thanks again.

Nuno,

Your pictures are worth a thousand words alone. Don't go!

If you decide to keep doing TOTM, perhaps I should nominate you chair of the TOTM committee. This way you could get some assistance. I am sure others may be interested in contributing a helping hand.

In addition we can start doing a TOTM mailing. Basically soliciting to the membership individually for a nomination. This way it's more of a personal request. I am sure if we talk it out (like now perhaps), we can find a way to build interest.

Hey, I will nominate my tank, but its overgrown and you will have to take top-down shots!

Whatever you decide to do, I appreciate all your efforts.

-Joe

I agree with the others Nuno, your write-ups and pictures are fantastic and I hate to see them go. Maybe people are a bit intimidated by the 2 previous TOTM's.... I know I'd never put mine up there although I am very proud of my achievments being new to the hobby and doing something on the scale that I did.

Hang in there I think people will open a bit more after given the explanation of what the totm actually is.

I agree with mark, you do a great job - professional an talented. reefers are strange people and all most all of them that have fabulous tanks are anal at it and are never satisfied. they want their tank to be better than it is and certainly as good as previous winners. not surprised people are nominating themselves; but for those who get to the level they feel is worthy to be on the forum I hope you can step forward (again) and do an artlce. this is one of the problems with TOTM, very hard to succeed it monthly when you have so few. hope you would consider continuing under different guidelines. great job and thank you.

I'm with everyone here that really values the time you spend for nothing, Nuno. It is a thankless job but we all appreciate it very much so even though at times you may feel we don't. PLEASE DON"T QUIT!!!
I've read thru some of the suggestions & they all sound very good. I think that right now with the summer winding down & all the activities associated with it may be a big factor. The other reason for fewer participation back in april may be due to this theme & contest just getting rolling. I myself have spent limited time online the last month or so because there is so much more to do in the summer. (including outside work on the home & yard) Give it a break till Sept or Oct & you will see that participation will indeed pick up. You can tell interest in the hobby is down during the summer months. Just look at all the people tearing their systems down lately. Think about it....
I also think the intimdation factor may lie with people (like myself) who are never satisfied with there system even when it is flourishing. I also think the suggestion of having different tank sizes each month give some reefers with smaller systems the chance to compete without the so called "big dogs". I know size doesn't matter but when did you ever look at a big system that was flourishing & not say "WOW!! Dream tank right there!!!" Just a couple cents from me with no intent to offend anyone.
It may be a good idea to think of ways to improve the outflow of input. There is a lot of good suggestions. Maybe one of the BOD (hint hint) can help us with that!!!
Nuno, You are a valued asset to the club.

I think nunofs right its a big job lets not just think adout ourselfs and how much we like the totm but if its going to get to stressful and make nunofs get out of the hobby then it is'nt worth it let it burn out maybe down the road things will be different

bottom line is if there isn't any subissions, there is no point in having it mthly...I would do it just to have him photograph my tank. but maybe if we can get some more interest. different people from different areas can help. That way its not always nunos article...again that only if he gets burned out...im all for letting him do them every mth but its really unfair to him.

Looks to me like it's a settled issue. Nuno, you can't quit even if you want to. Ha!

You'll make a great Reef Competition Committee Chair. I'll volunteer as your first committee member.

And, in case I forgot, THANKS for your last tank profiles. :D

I'll volunteer.

ToTM is too good to let it fade/die (but only if Nuno is still willing to continue)

I will as well, but that still doesn't solve the problem of only two entries per mth.

I understand what you guys are saying (btw, thanks for the kind words) but I was expecting that some people would nominate their own tanks, especially now that there's a prize involved...

Nuno

I think people may be too modest to offer their tank for TOTM....

Nuno please do not give up, your photography and articles fot TOTM are highlights of the website.

M.

yeah, i would nominate, but the only tanks that I have really seen are mine, my brother's and Dong's...

If we did some sort of photo input it would be so much easier and i think people would be more willing to nominate. I definitely would.

nunofs...if you didn't notice, you have a fan club :D

I think everyone else might be right about it being summer and participation is down right now, also the fact that many people might not think they have TOTM quality tanks. I know personally I'm such a perfectionist that mine is never good enough (or large enough lol) I also dont know what 90% of your tanks look like. SOOO ... I've got an idea
Lets start a thread like the full frontals one, Just ask for random tank shots (no single coral shots) and everyone can see them and EVERYONE nominate someone! This way we can show Nuno just how much we love him by bombarding him with nominations :D

I never thought of nominating my little 20Long for a few reasons....one is that it's small and not very impressive looking. Another reason is that it is filled with soft corals that everyone seems to have in their tanks already and I didn't think many people would be interested in that. And yet another reason is that I slack on the upkeep quite a bit and it's looking a bit dirty and in dire need of a good glass cleaning and maybe a vacuuming.

But...if you need nominations to choose from...I nominate my dirty little 20Long.

Post it on the thread in the pic forum. I've seen TOTM on RC with just basic softies that had nice rock work and the few pieces they had were nice...so post yours...

We're also not trying to outdo RC (although the first two tanks have come close to outdoing them). Don't think your tank isn't good enough because it isn't up to the RC totm standards.

Anything that makes your tank interesting is great. Sometimes the behind the sceenes stuff is good too, or what you've done in a small space.

What if the theme of the thread was changed to like a spotlight on someone's tank - not necessary a tank of the month per say, but just different people's systems - They can be nominated, volunteer, or the comittee can select active members and see if they want to participate...maybe then people can vote at the end of the year for seperate catagories or best tank/system and the winner can get a gift certificate to a sponsor. It would be a good way to showcase all the different systems, tank set-ups and corals/fish displays, without intimidating people by thinking they must have a perfect system or some sort of rare corals for it to be interesting....

I'll step up too!!!

I nominate Nuno's tank! :)

I didn't know that you could nominate your own tank, not that i would.....

But I agree with everyone else, A) Nuno you can't leave TOTM :) You do an amazing job even with the lack of participation. B) It is kinda intimitading, what if eveyone had to have spot in the tank of the month as we know it or different themes as suggested. Kind of like superlatives in High School- Most likely to improve, Most DIY or Most exotic...try to find the good in each system.

just some thoughts.

I have to sadly admit that I thought ToTM was so popular it didn't need my nomination. I can think of at least THREE right off the bat.

A bad misconception....
