long time no post.
a little background, I had a 120g running for about a year, and was always battling algae and whatnot. but recently(about a month ago) I had a severe outbreak of dinoflagellates that pretty much wiped everything out. so I tore it all done and I'm starting fresh. bought a new ro/di, new skimmer(vertex in180, I'm psyched to try it out), built a new sump, etc etc. but in the process of tearing everything down I put all the live rock in a rubbermaid, kept it moist as best as possible but not submerged so I'm sure there has been a massive amount of die off.
now, my question is, would it better to "cook" the rock in 50g bucket, with a powerhead doing frequent water changes or to let it die, potentially bleach it, let it sit outside, and start over as if it was base rock.
or 3rd option, buy a bunch of marco rock for the display, kill the old rock off, and put it in the basement to recure, and just slowly introduce some random select "good looking" pieces into the display periodically.
