Open Top Canopy. To Cap or not to cap?

Senior Toad Licker
When I mounted my canopy on the tank, I noticed it was 5 inches taller than myself, so I held off on putting a cap on it. The reflector is a 36" horizontal, with only 2 to 3 inches of room between the reflector and the front/back of the canopy. Should I cap it? I feel plenty of heat coming up and out, with a litlle loss of light, no much though.

I am in the process of building a canopy for the 150 I am getting. It will have an open top. 2 fans one on each end both blowing in. Read thread "Fans". I had a 90 canopy with 2 175 MH. two fans, one in one out. It got pretty warm up there. I am adding a 400MH and 2 more VHS actinics. So I decided to make the change on this new one. Everything I've read so far seems to tell me that fans blowing in is the way to go. I guess others have the same feeling.

Thanks! The tank still has few weeks of acclimation, until I get up to a 8 or 9ish photoperiod. With this, I'm not going to get an idea how much heat will be an issue with 250x2, and a second floor summer coming up, I attracted to the idea of the open top.
