Hello,

I was wondering to get some opinions on the below skimmer, i'm thinking about purchasing one for a 55 gallon tank.

CPR BAK PAK 2R + Reef Ready Protein Skimmer

Thanks,
Ron

I used one on my 58 for a couple of years with no problems. I bought it used with a needle wheel pump. Just keep the pump clean.

If you are snagging it used and cheap, that's great, if not, I'd highly recommend the Aqua C hang on skimmers. (I run two backpack skimmers on two different small tanks and I like them alot, they just dont compare with the AquaC)

I'm actually thinking about buying one new. I was also looking at the AquaC Remora Hang on w/drain fitting and MaxiJet 1200 pump. I can get it on MD.Com for $180 with free shipping.

The Bak Pak is $140 +$10 for shipping, someone told me that the Bak Pak is the best HOB Protein Skimmer.

I've had a bak-pak for over 4 years w/o any problems. If you do get one I'd suggest getting the pre-skimmer which does a much better job of getting the waste that's at the top of the water.

Also you could get the pre-skimmer and bubble trap combo. If you do additives you will get some bubbles and using the bubble trap makes a difference.

If you're looking to save money put a WTB thread in the WTB section. I just sold a BakPak and Remora a few weeks ago for $50 each. Lots of people have one of those in their used equipment pile.

I have been using a bak-pak on my frag tank for a while now. It works good but the remora is better. The bak-paks work better with the MJ pump and maybe a mesh or fishing line mod.

Same here, but on a QT tank.
I had it on a 55 gallon for almost a year with little problems.
Just seems to need a lot of adjusting and cleaning.

I too have the bak pak and will second the fact that it needs a lot of cleaning and adjusting.
