Phosban Reactor question

My question is, can I run this with half phos remover and half carbon at the same time? Would I have to get two seprate units to do so?

Yes, both can be used in the Phosban Reactor. Also a nitrate media can be used it them as well using a MiniJet 404 that will allow a slow adequate flow through. A control valve from the pump to allow the media's flow within the chamber.

it doesn't have to be all that small of a pump if you have an extra laying around.

Mine uses a maxi-jet 1200... which is far to big, but the ball valve helps fine tune it and it works fine.

However if you are going to purchase a pump to use it with, the mini-jet 400, or 600 is the way to go because they don't use as much electricity, and they don't produce as much heat.

might want a bigger reactor for your 75... i have this one for my 90.. it takes 1 cup per 10 gallons and there is no way i can get 9 cups in the reactor plus the phosban.. unless you want to change it more often..

Yeah that would be great, Im in no rush, ive been running carbon passivly in the sump and read that a reactor is better. Just didnt know what to get.

I ordered one of the the dual Bulk Reef Supply reactors months ago. I love it, it is made like a RODI unit. It's really easy to change the media, all you do is unscrew the container which is much easier then dealing with the Two Little Fishy reactor (used one, now sits on the spare parts box), the Two Little Fishy one is nice but I found all the thumb screws to be to much of a PITA.

If you setup is reef ready/over flow box why not cut your return line and put a T in to run the reactor off of. I have my CA reactor and Bulk Reef Supply reactor T'd off my return pump so that I don't have to have two more powerheads.

I have a Mag 5 return pump for my 46-gal. Do you think the setup in the attched pic would work? As I understand it the GFO and carbon barely needs to tumble so the ball valve would allow me to throttle the flow down, correct?

Looks like it would work, I dont knwo what they require for pressure though

You can mix the two but it will waste a lot of GFO.The GFO has a far longer useful life before it is exhausted than carbon.
If you don't mind changing out the GFO every few weeks with the carbon that won't be an issue, but it is not a cost effective way of doing it though.

I wouldn't see why not.....that is basically how mine is setup. I have a true union ball valve inbetween the reactor and T coming off the return line. Then I use the valve on the BRS reactor to control the flow coming off the return pump.

Cool. I like the idea of not having to use one additional pump if I don't have to.

If you run both in one chamber all you do is put the gfo in fisrt then the foam piece then the carbon. So when you change the carbon you dont disturb the gfo.
