Phosphate Problem

I had my water checked the other day at my LFS and have a phosphate level of 2. They said water changes will bring it down and I know a reactor with phosban will too, but don't have one. Can I just put phosban in a filter sock and place it in my sump? Also any other advice would be good. All corals seem OK still just doesn't look like my sps is super happy.

You can put it in the sump but it won't be as effective as in the reactor. For gfo, sometimes if you don't have a pump to slightly tumbling them, they will harden and become useless pretty fast

I use chemi pure elite in my media basket to help with phosphates. If you put it in the sump, make sure it gets a lot of flow.

I put my chemipure or carbon right into my filer sock. You have to change the filter sock out every few days otherwise it starts to over flow but it forces you to do what most us neglect to do... That is change the filter sock every two day. That also will help lower phosphates.

Make sure your check you food, additives and RODI water to make sure you are not adding phosphates.

If you go the GFO route get a reactor. what are they $30? without one it is very inefficient. Also with readings that high change it out weekly until they subside.

If you have algae remove as much as you can as that will be like removing cheato. And maybe add a temp fuge with cheato to help compete Algae if you have it or keep it from taking hold

I have no algae issues right now. I just don't want to lose my sps corals. My lps seem to be doing fine along with the softies. Prob going to up my vinegar dosing to try to drive down my nitrates and see about investing in a reactor. BRS the best place for one? Any one have any old ones kicking around?

How big is the tank? If its small then CPE and water changes would be good. Over 50 ish and I say reactor with Gfo.

Definitely make sure you're not adding phates as mentioned earlier, easiest way to lower your levels
