Location and time are key. Waltham is a stretch since that would get us home close to midnight on the southshore but well worth the sacrifice if this happens.

can say after meeting and listening and speaking with Charles Veron during the Boston MACNA that for anyone who is even remotely intersted in corals this is a MUST get to !!!! but that being said I am unable to attend due to previous engagements BUT if there is any way out I will be there seeing it is Sams 40th I dont see that happening :(

Like many others that have responded, the location of this event will determine if I'm able to go.

Charlie was the recipient of the Darwin Medal in 2004

Date: Jan 9, 2004 05:08 PM Author: Francis STAUB
Subject: Dr. Charlie Veron Wins 2004 Darwin Medal
The Darwin Medal, the most prestigious award given by the International Society for Reef Studies, is presented every four years at the International Coral Reef Symposium. It is awarded to a senior ISRS member who is recognized worldwide for major contributions throughout her/his career. The previous recipients have been Drs. David Stoddart, Peter Glynn, Ian Macintyre and Yossi Loya. The next occasion at which the medal will be presented is the Tenth International Coral Reef Symposium, to be held in Okinawa Japan from 28 June to 2 July 2004.

ISRS is pleased to announce that Dr. J. E. N. (Charlie) Veron has been elected to receive the 2004 Darwin Medal. Dr. Veron is Leading Scientist
at the Australian Institute of Marine Science in Townsville, Queensland. ISRS President Dr. Nick Polunin will present the medal and Dr. Veron will deliver a plenary address at a ceremony in Okinawa
scheduled for Tuesday 29 June.

Just checked my schedule and I'm in as well, traveling from Maine. A 7pm time would be good, as well as a location from Boston-north.

>Personally I think it should be 7-8pm<

I'm guessing this would be the time that would make the most sense.

FWIW, I missed Dr. Veron's presentation at Macna as I was running both (unexpectedly) coral propagation workshops. But I got a hold of the DVD a few months ago and I was very impressed by his presentation. This was why I emailed him in the first place, but also partly to appologize for his less-than-perfect experience at Macna. I'd wanted to contact him earlier, but never had his email address.

Somebody told bec (thanks Moe/KAS).
She will be there!

This is great. Thanks to all who are making it happen... wherever it winds up happening.

Mr. Hiller is the point man on this. Kudos Greg!

From the google map of membership, I think that Waltham would be the most likely location.

I would walk on hot coals to hear Mr. Veron as I missed his talk at MACNA as well. I did have the opportunity to speak with him at an informal dinner gathering with about 10 other BRS members after the conference closed, but I was so tired and relieved at the end of MACNA that I fear I was not a very intelligent dinner companion. I would welcome the chance to redeem myself!

I have both his 3-volume set and his large compendium of Corals of the World - and I use them so often that they are dog-eared.

unless its farly close to worcester I don't think I will be able to attend. weekdays are bad for me.

just not sure. depends where I am. One of the few I saw at Macna. want coral knowledge, he is it! Nashua, Framingham, Quincy - start heading south a little will ya.
