Plumbing questions about drain

I have noticed that where my drain comes into my sump it causes alot of microbubbles as the water comes crashing down. Is there a better way to stop that? Also I have it so that my refugium drains into that same pipe through a bulkhead and if I put a filter sock over it helps with the microbubbles, but then I thought that would defeat the purpose of supplying my tank with pods cause they would all get trapped in the filter sock.

Some people recommend reverso durso setups, but I haven't been impressed with the performance of mine. Bubble traps and slower water movement through your sump (to give the bubbles more time to get to the surface) are your best options, imo.

Meemoo,

I had a similar problem and ended up wrapping the returns with a larger diameter pipe. Sort of like a muffler. Make sure the larger diameter pipes extend above the water line and as the water enters your sump, most of the bubbles will "boil" off before flowing into the sump. It's a very crude reverse durso.

HTH,

Gary
