How long have you kept Linkia in your tank? They have very poor survival rate and wondering if peple here have any success longterm.

im getting a orange linckia from everythingreef.com and ill let you know if you have not purchased one yet
Duds

So far i have tried three and on average they only lasted couple months. Not sure why.....

got 6 mths on mine...

got a blue one a year and a half maybe longer. its dropped a few newborns along the way and has grown back its limb. I've only ever seen two at one time so I dont know which ones have survived or if I still have the original or daughters.

I've been waiting awhile to get one until my tank has been up a while. Yaktop-If you find one of the daughters and would want to I'd buy it off you. That is if you were ready to say goodbye. Being so close the transition would be easy knowing these are more difficult starfish to keep.:D

I've had my tiny orange linkia for almost a year and a half now! It started out in a 2 gallon for 2 months , then went to a 10 & now its in my 20. People say its impossible to keep them in a nano & I've even herd there's no way its survived over 6 months that im lieing!

I think with good water quality & slow acclimation & not to much contact with air all help with the success. I also thow a mysis under it when I do a waterchange...I read somewhere they might take meaty foods...I have no clue if it does or not but I still do it.

best thing for these guys are 100 gallons or larger, or alteast 100lbs of LR. It's not 100% known what they eat...it's assumed they eat a bacterial film off of LR, hence the large LR requirements. 95% will not eat prepared foods. some will though. Acclimation of 6hrs is suggested also salinity of 1.026 min is recommended. This is from a Marine biologist whose main study was stars, brittle and linkia.

Most die from Osmotic shock within 1 month and 6months to a year to starve... If you are over 1 yr, then you are provideing proper nutrition somehow..

these guys dont normally hang on the glass where you could easily pick them off. sometimes you see a leg sticking out from underneath a rock or wrapped up in a nook or cranny. not sure I could even get one if I wanted too!

Jovreef, what color is yours? I'm curious to see if theres a difference in survival rates, as I think I remember reading somewhere that the different colors are really different species.

HeHe Orange :) As far as I've read the blue and orange ones are both the same. The purple ones are different. I've herd the orange are easier to keep by some people, but I think there is no difference. The only reason I got an orange instead of a cool blue one was the size...I'd never even seen an orange as small as this one...its around 2 inces tip to tip.

Had a blue linkia for 6 months. I would put food under it but never saw it eat.

I have had mine over 2 years, been out of water a couple times and survived my tank crash over the summer.

sure........
