Power head option

Looking to get new powerheads any suggestions? I was gonna do MP40’s but my tank is too close to the wall and not sure if draining 80% of it to slide it forward a few inches is worth the trouble. Considering Nero 7’s.
Any one use Nero 7’s yet? Thoughts?

It is totally worth the trouble lol... well I'm partial to mp40s... with that said Neros in general are solid pumps. They push a ton of water. Don't really notice them compared to other pumps. That's what I would get if mps didn't exist.

I have no experience with Nero 7 but do with Nero3's. I bought 2 , one lasted about 14 months, the second is still running but I find they need cleaning about once a month, a small amount of slime/ algae build up on the impeller drops output significantly, When I looked online I did see quite a lot of complaints about early failure of the 3's .

Yeah I heard a lot of bad things about 3’s and heard 5’s are good and 7’s are just still too new

I’m a tunze fan. Clean them once a year or so. Probably not the best option for smaller tanks. Every MP10/40 I’ve had as always rusted up on me so I don’t recommend them. The AI’s have had a lot of reported issues as well. Gyres work awesomely but need frequent cleanings.

+1 fore Tunze, rocking 4 Tunze 6095's over here

Thanks all for your input. Looking into tunze right now. My ocd just appreciates MP40’s cordless appeal.
I'm really not a fan of cords either but for sure he money spent and reliability I can live with it.

Could anyone who has an MP40 do me a huge favor and confirm with me the exact depth of the dry side so that if I did decide to move my tank I’ll know exactly how much I’ll need to move it. As of right now I got 1” from the wall. I can’t find exact measurement online. Thanks in advance!

Looks like you will need 2 1/4in

I use a couple Nero 7’s in my 150. I like everything about them besides a whine sound above 80%. I run them around 70% and they are virtually silent. I use the Mobius app which seems to work well.

I love my mp40s.... one of them is easily over 10 years old. if you soak the wet sides in vinegar then they will rust. ive never had any issues cleaning them with citric acid from BRS.

Performing a cleaning on the one nero3 I had running and found multiple cracks in the motor housing, all leaching rust, went back and looked at the other one That had failed on me a while ago and found the same cracks and rust.first one failed after 14 months the one still running less that 2 years old.

Yikes, bring on those new Tunze. Hoping to maybe grab two of the larger ones for the new build.

Thanks for sharing. Definitely think I’m steering away from the Nero’s

I got a 6105 eco, set it up in my waterbox 100.3, it's way too much pump for the tank, I have it throttled back on pulse, nice wide flow with the wider front case.I tried the wave mode but it nearly put water over the top of the tank lol.
I do hear a slight hum on pulse but that's common to most pumps on pulse.
Looking at maybe getting a 4 foot peninsula if they have a good sale next month,One more Tunze should give me good flow. I find if you point them up ever so slightly you can turn them up and not disturb the sand too much, also helps with nutrient export.I have it on my Profilux ,same outlet as a jebao and combined amps is .05 which calculates to 1 watt, on pulse,if the ghl is accurate,I could confirm with my killawatt meter

I just ordered an innovative marine ext 200 peninsula last week. Odd dimensions but 70.9x30x21.7, just have to wait 4-6 months and remodel this room, fun times ahead.
