Powerhead - Maxi vs Koralia

Input please - have 54 corner tank and now use 2 Maxi 1200's 295gph(one in each front corner) for water circulation and am considering the Koralia #1 400gph pumps instead. Too much flow?? Should I leave well enough alone. Am having no problems but might be able to control flow better and cosmetically would look better also. Input on Koralia pump generally would be appreciated.

I would go with a Koralia over a normal (unmodded) MJ1200 anyday. They flow of an MJ1200 is very directional while the Koralia is very spread out.

also the koralia has magnetic mounts.....so no worrying about suction cups failing and creating a sand storm in your tank

I have a #4 and a MJ1200 in my 55G tank.

MJ1200 is rated 295gph and Koralia#4 is rated 1200gph isn't that 4 times more current really pushing it or do the ratings not tell the truth - don't want to get something that is a waste or not needed as not getting something not powerful enough or does the spread of the koralia warrant going bigger than the MJ does. Such as stated in mcnallys answer as being a bigger spread - just don't want to through $$$$ away or do I just need one for placement for my tank?

The 1 won't be enough. Yeah it's rated at 400gph but as Steve said its more of a spread. I have a 1 in my 30 cube and I am going to upgrade.

295gph out of a 1/2" nozzle is a lot more water movement than 400gph out of a 1.5" nozzle.

is there a site that shows the spread of the Koraila so I can see it and make a determination? From what I can find it's a crapshoot on figuring it out by what I have been able to see from sites that sell the pump - very little info - maybe one #4 can do my whole corner tank

I have a Seio 620 and a Koralia #1. I was looking for a gentler flow. I bought the Koralia to replace the Seio. I'm using the Seio again and wish I bought the Koraila #2. The flow on the #1 is almost nothing 4" from it so I use it to mix salt now. There's nothing wrong with the #1 if you only have a 20 gallon tank. I recommend Seio 620 or Koralia #2. The magnet mounts are a real plus on those Koralia though.

i have a 90gal had 2 mj1200 and a rio1400 got rid of all three for 1 karolina #3and i like the movement alot better

I use 2 koralia 4's in a 65 and the flow is somewhat chaotic yet not over bearing. In a 54 corner you could probably mount 1 in each corner aim them towards the front and they would meet in the center dispersing random current all throughout the tank.

Unit is bigger than I thought it would be. I like the flow and seems like everything is swaying in the current and it isn't overbearing. It's spread is so much greater than the MJ's. Got to admit it stirred up the tank a little where evidently very little current had previously not gotten to. Being a corner unit I put it on the left side of the tank as close to the front as I could get it. I have a MJ1200 I can use if flow is needed that the Koralia might not reach but at this point am impressed with it. I thank everyone for their input.
