Powerheads??

Hi all. I need to upgrade/replace my powerheads.

What are you using? What would you recommend? I want a low profile style. Also not interested in breaking the bank. I need 2 to replace my very very old and very very tired QP16.

Reefbreeders rpm are good
Nero 5
Jebao new powerheads
Gyres
It all depends on the size of the tank and what your looking for in flow let alone the coral inhabitants

The tank is 90g DT 20g sump mixed reef with fish. Flow rates and placement are something I trying to figure out. Currently I have them on either end of the tank . I'm thinking of moving them to the back wall. Open up the tank more.

No t small form factor, but you'll never be disappointed with Tunze powerheads

Just put a pair of nero5’s in my tank, and they are impressive. Quiet, programmable, move a lot of water and they can be aimed/positioned by a fair amount.

I was using two of the Jebao SLW-30 which work well, but I think are under-powered for my 5ft 125G tank. I had supplemented them with two SICCE XStream SDC pumps, but still seems like too little flow.

I just bought two new Jebao SINE Cross-flow Pumps (SCP-150M) with the WiFi controllers. These have far more power than I'd need; I'm running them in Sine Mode (W2) at speed level 2 (of 8). Lots of motion. I'd turn them up more but I think they'd blast the Nems off the rocks.

Only issue I have with these new SCPs is that the Jebao Aqua app is garbage. I can't get it setup to consistently/reliably control the pumps via WiFi. I'm just using the controllers now and they are working fine.

Edit to add: For the SLW-30s I did end up buying some 3D printed guards that slip over the powerhead and sit flush to the glass. Had snails getting back there, and a couple fish were poking around. Didn't want them turned into sushi.

I’m running a Jebao gyre that I bought new from Dong. No problems after a year and a nice sheet of flow across the top of the tank. There is a slight high-pitched sound if used in any mode other than constant. I think the Maxspect gyres also made a similar noise when I had them. Tons of flow if you need it, but I still would’ve first tried 2 Nero 5s if the Neros worked on 3/4” glass.

Trying to decide between the Nero5 and RB RPM. I like the features of the Nero but like the price of the RPM

In terms of Nero5, if you don’t need the phone app to program the powerhead, go with the Jebao SlW-20, which is basically a Nero5 with a Jebao controller.
I have both RPM and SLW-20 in stock, the SLW-20 I sell carry 1-year warranty.

Do they both have the fish/snail/nem guards?

The snail guard for the RPM is included in a $5 accessory pack.
I am using both RPM and Slw-20 for a while now, never have a snail walked into either one.

Also if you want to go with SLW-20, beware of grey or blavk market version that has no warranty on eBay and Amazon.

Anyone know if there is a 3D printed fish guard available for the Reefbreeders RP-M? I might give one a try if there is a 3D guard for it.

Wow, what are the odds:

I’ve seen fish/nem guards for the SLW-20. Is the RP-M the same powerhead?

This is the kit Dong was speaking of and has on hand:

Assuming you want something a little more permanent? I've used these and they work just fine.

To add to that, the cable that it comes with is nice, allows you to run the pump from a USB power source in the case of an outage.
