Prizm skimmer question...

Is anyone familiar how these work? I have never used one and have just set it up in my tank.

I was wondering if the collection cup on top is suppose to be full of water?? I thought that the "foamy" stuff went in the collection cup.

Also makes quite a fuzzy/hissing noise... it is brand new, thought it would have been more quiet.

Any help would be appreciated.... thanks

the collection cup isnt supposed to be full of water. make sure you connect the tube to setting I to create the siphon, then move the tube to setting II to get bubbles in the skimmer.

you'll need to adjust(decrease in your case) the flow with the black thingy on top of the intake tube. you want there to be a "dry" foam to start pouring over into your collection cup. it takes some adjusting.

as for the sound, mine is kinda loud, too.

on the intake line of the prizm there is a little knob. that knob controls the flow of the prizm, if you cup is filling with water... the skimmer is set tooo high. slow the intake line down until it draws out foam instead of water...

Did you rinse the skimmer before putting on the tank? There could be residual manufacturing oils on it. Also don't despair if you don't get foam. The skimmer has to break in and can take a week or so.

With that said I am a former prizm owner, and I did not find it to work very well at all. Then I went to a Remora and found out it work only 30-40% better. Now I have a Turboflotter and am looking to get a 30% upgrade on that. The Turbo flotter was 100% better than the Remora. Just my 2 cents....

Had one of those on a Nano tank I built. Was just ok. Very sensitive to water level. We had the same problem at first. Keep working at it and you will dial it in.
