question about flushing RO/DI units

I bout a Kent RO/DI unit used and it didn't have an owners manual. I need to purchase a flush kit, but I'm not sure what to get. I was just looking at the air water ice web site and they sell a fast flush kit and di bypass kit. What do I need? Below is a link to the two products. Thanks in advance.

The DI bypass kit is simply a way to hmmmm....bypass your DI filter. When you are replacing filters you should not use the first few gallons in the aquarium. Bypassing the DI cartridge allows you to not "waste" resin for this process. Also, if you use your RO/DI unit for drinking water, you can "bypass" the DI filter and just get RO water. Make sense??

The flush kit, allows the full water pressure to run through the RO membrane housing and washes any deposits off the outside of the RO membrane. It in essence bypasses the flow restrictor.

Hope that makes sense. :)

Rays and Aquadiva,

I now understand that the DI bypass kit is used when drinking water is needed. I plan on using the RO/DI unit for reefkeeping only. I guess all I need is a flush kit. I've heard of people making their own, but I can't find the parts at home depot. I think it's two tees and a ball vale. airwaterice.com sells them for $15.

Thanks everyone.

The Coralife RO unit I bought said that in order to flush the unit all I had to do was swap the waste/product lines and run for 15 minutes. Be prepared, the water really flies out of the product water line when I do this. :D I wonder what the difference is between other RO units? FWIW I replaced the membrane in my 24GPD with a 75GPD from Aqua Addicts, worked like a charm and saved $$.
