Question about ph monitors

Going to purchase a new ph monitor soon. Just want to know if there are brands to stay away from or if there are less expensive ones that are as reliable as some of the bigger names. Don?t want to break the bank on this one if I can help it!

I have a Milwaukee that has worked perfectly for the past 5 years. I think it's even one of the less expensive monitors, but as I said I bought it 5 years ago.

i have used/use both of those,no problems

Look at the accuracy on the monitor you are buying. The milwauke which I use to have was +/- 0.2, I now have a Pinpoint which is +/- 0.1, and an aquacontroller that is I believe +/- 0.01.

When you are talking about +/- 0.2 that means a reading of 8.2 could be anywhere between 8.0 and 8.4. That is a pretty large range.

I bought the Reef Fanatic pH controller (they have just a monitor version also) about a month ago from PA - not alot of experience with it, but I do like it so far - it was around $40 less expensive than the Pinpoint version. It is very easy to calibrate and program.

MikeG,
Thanks for the advice. I will pay close attention to the accuracy & how much of a differential it may have!

*pH Monitoring and Control
*Upgradeable Firmware with Free PC Cable Adapter
*BLUE Backlight LCD & LEDs (with dimming!)
*Digital Light Timer ( Metal halide “sure-on” )
*Wavemaker (with softstart)
*Digital thermometer & dual-stage temp control (temp probe included)
*Fan/Chiller control
*8 programmable channels (No need for separate X-10 devices)

I've never tried their product. I can say that I have an Aqua Controller Jr and it works excellent. It leave me to believe that their higher end products must rock. Check them out at http://www.neptunesys.com/

I may be getting the AC III pro in at work to write an integration module for. If I do, I'll let you know what I think.

The one thing to keep in mind with the ReefKeeper 2 is that I don't believe you can expand past the 8 channels. You can go past that pretty quick if you are controlling heaters, lights, fans, ect.

Reefkeper II

Be careful where you put unit. I had mine in the stand under the tank for six months and it died. I sent it back to see what was wrong and they said it was salt creep. After 6 mos I was out $260.00

Not for nothing but "IF" your going to go for a controller might i suggest something that can also be a second form of "control" might want to look into something that does ORP and salinity among other things. Pm me for more in depth info.
