Question for folks with Rubbermaid tubs for sumps...

Hi all-

Looking to do a rubbermaid 100g tub for a basement sump, but not sure how to partition it off internally for the skimmer, bubble trap, and fuge. Any or all care to share plans on how they did theirs? Much obliged!

-Danny

I placed my old sump inside the rubbermaid, then I placed the skimmer inside the old sump. I plumbed the returns from the tank above to empty inside of the old sump. By the time the water gets out into the rubbermaid and works it's way to the pump inlet, all the micro bubbles are gone.

I was just thinking for all those people who float ice bottles every now again. how about you did this and when the tank gets to hot, run the cold water into the outter container to chill down the inner container. could even throw in the ice as well, drain and repeat as necessary.

Paul- thanks for the idea. Seen the pix of your set-up..drool...drool.... would love to see it in person some day!

Mark- thanks again for the rock.... drying on a tarp in the sun as I write! i saw some of the pix of the wastebasket idea- great! Also got the idea from you to elevate the sump and add a bottom drain to get rid of the gunk. BRILLIANT!!!

Here is what my 1st chamber looks like in my sump....

Maurod- basically you have what looks like 2 overflow pipes running into a trash can, with a filter sock over the whole set up. Water just run over the top of the trashcan,or did you cut slits in the bottom/sides? Is your skimmer after the trashcan? Won't that introduce microbubbles? Do you mind maybe explaining how your flow goes? Thanks! -Danny

My flow exits about 6" above the bottom of the can, on the side closest to the camera. About 6" from there is the skimmer intake, which outputs to the top of the tank, about 12" from the return intake. If you like, stop by tomorrow in the early afternoon to see it.

I use a plastic waste bucket with a few 2" holes drilled through at the bottom sides to dump the return into and use as a bubble trap. Notice the eggcrate to keep the cheato away from the skimmer pump.... and return intake.

Maurod- Thanks for the invite, but can't make it this weekend. Maybe next weekend? We're around on Sunday...have a BBQ competition on the Cape on Sat.

Rick- The pix look awesome!! Thanks for posting. It's all coming together and I'm getting great ideas from everyone that replies! Appreciate it!

Danny, your welcome to come over anytime to have a look. I'm thinking of adding a fuge so I could use a few ideas.
