Ques. (Question of the Day) Controller or no controller

As a new reefer I’ve never even considered them due to their crazy prices but if I could miraculously get them for a tenth of the price or something, I’d love to have automatic testing and daily auto water changes. However, I wouldn’t trust them to make changes, I’d want to do that manually.

@chadfish would love to know more about your setup and especially the feeding via doser(?). Or do you have a controllable autofeeder?
Sure, I’ll take some photos and explain it later this week when I get a chance.

I've been using a basic non-programmable feeder for vacations but broke recently. I need to get a new one for my next vacation.

I have had a reef tank for probably close to 30 years and never seem to pull the trigger on a controller other than plug in timers (now smart plugs a little) and the inkbird controller. I sort of want one but I barely automate anything and might staty back up on 2-part dosing with the new tank but I don't do much SPS and plan on almost zero SPS in the new tank water changes often are enough.

I have been toying with the idea of getting one of the basic Hydros but not a huge fan of their wireless outlets and don't want to spend the $200+ on their new 8 outlet wired outlet. I am sure I will hem and hollar over whether or not to get one and I will probably not end up getting one since this has been a topic for years!
