Question on this Dremel attachment

Could you use this with a cordless dremel to make modifications underwater on rocks that you cannot take out of the tank?

if you only want to use it 1 time...

seriously I dont know if I would, not sure what kind of lube/oil its holding. if you do you most likely will only get one use out of it before the salt/rust starts to get the best of it..........rob

Thanks Rob. Any suggestions on how to kill of an encrusting montipora that has moved onto a rock I cannot move? I scraped of the polyps with a scalpel before, but it only took a couple weeks to come back. It's not something I want to do every two weeks and this monti is starting to kill a nice acan colony I have.

i have that attachment with mine, never tried under water though. If you could remove all the grease in it i could see it working for short periods of time. Theres a label on it talking about bending too far and overheating probably from the friction/resistance in the flexable tubing. Another issue is if the flexable center drive cable material is reef safe(no copper), also it might rust quick without the oil/grease thats on it. so thats my analysis of it i think it could work but has potential of lot complications too.

I modify rocks with fragging snips or a long screwdriver and maybe a slightly heavy hitting thing(usually pliers, not a hammer)

Kalk paste...

I've killed caps using thick Kalk paste, smear the heck out of it, cover as much as possible (shut down your flow ) and it will usually burn it but might take a few attemps...Like i said I did it and I only have a couple small spots that I missed and I need to hit them again....rob

Yup dont get it on anthing you dont want to kill..........and dont over do the kalk or your prams will be out of wack on such a small tank.......try a small section and see if it turns white in a few hours/over night

You could use a turkey baster to blast it with boiling water. It worked for me.

Cover any live tissue with putty epoxy. Then, you just take it off a few days later.

Maby shade it by putting a flat frag disk on it! sell the disk... I could try to make to a small router with a power head mod all ways wanted to try!!! I will try tomorrow night i got a plan..my only question is it a hard to reach place???Meaning would it need to be like using a pencil?

Nope. An easy to reach place fortunately. If you do this, let me know how it worked!

you can just cover it with any of those reef epoxies and just leave it if you want, it would be easy and you likeley wont accidenly cover anything else

also if youre handy with a pair of large bone cutters you could reach down and cut it out. Ive used the epoxy method as described above and it works.

btw, dont try and hammer it out...may break your glass bottom

I don't know man. When the sunset monti started growing towards the acan I didn't care. I thought that the acan would just sting it and burn it out and everything would be fine. Well, it happened the exact opposite way...the monti melted the acan head it is touching. Always something new in this hobby...

I'd use the epoxy trick as well. You can kill as much or as little of it as you want with that trick.
