Raising fry

So after looking over the internet there are a few unanswered questions I have for those of you who have tried raising fish or seahorse fry as I assume the basics are the same. Im going to try and raise seahorse fry using a one gallon or less aquarium with an air pump, and a light. No live rock, no substrate, just a small plant for them to hitch too. Now how do I deal with the water? Because I dont want the tank to "cycle" and have crazy ammonia and nitrite spikes so should I only pull water from my DT even for the daily water changes? Or should I just mix fresh batches of saltwater constantly to keep the tank clean? I have. I have no experience with this so any help would be nice!
Thanks!

Do a search for sponge filter. Easy to set up, use a sponge from a seasoned tank and it will bring beneficial bacteria with it to deal with the nitrogen cycle

Ill give that a try, i just ordered a second sponge, and will just use the pne o i have in there now. Ill just make my own sponge filter... seems simple enough

Well they are giving birth sooner than i thought... woke up to find a seahrse fry sruck to my filter sponge. Hes still alive and well though

Well there it is. Ran out this morning and got all the stuff I needed. Extremely simple setup! The sponge is from my DT filter and i just replaced the filter sponge with a new one. There are 2 tiny seahorses in there. My phone is old so it couldn't snap a picture of them

Sweet
Good luck rearing them

Still havent observed the fry eating yet but they look healthy and are hitching just fine. Ill post good pictures if I can get some this weekend

Seahorse fry still doing great. They have grown quite a bit and I have observed them eating. So far both are still alive.

Good job
They look awesome

Only two survivors? Were there more at the start?

No I only started with 2. So I have a 100% survival rate! From what ive read if its a males first time holding eggs they usually can only carry a couple so im assuming thats what happened. But I am pretty sure I have two more pregnant seahorses in the tank so in the next couple weeks im assuming my breeder setup will have many more occupants

Seahorse fry are about 2 weeks old now so I figured it was time to be added to the Display tank. So far so good and they seem to be moving around pretty good. They are strong enough swimmers now where they are able to swim away from the filter and avoid being stuck to the filter sponge.
