Well, it has been 4-1/2 months since I signed off…..and I am back…..and there are some big changes with the format!

First and foremost, I will have a new co-host. I am super excited to announce that Dong Zou from AcroGarden has agreed to be my co-pilot moving forward. Thank you Dong!

Dong has been one of my most popular guests. He has a PhD in chemistry and worked for several pharmaceutical companies in various therapeutic areas including anti-inflammatory, cancer, pain management and anti-infectious diseases. He got into the saltwater aquarium hobby in 2004 and was able to combine his passion for coral and his experience in the pharmaceutical industry by cofounding a company called eCove BioMarine. This company focused on aquaculture coral for drug discovery and bone grafting.

His current company, AcroGarden Inc, was then founded to hold the intellectual properties and to study coral farming.

I think Dong will make an incredible co-host. He is a scientist and has a tremendous database of knowledge he has amassed through his educational and professional experience, as well as from growing corals. And let me tell you, Dong is one of the best at growing beautiful, colorful corals, especially Acropora. I have seen his operation many times and have a number of his corals in my systems.

But perhaps the thing that endears people the most to Dong is his authenticity and matter of fact opinions. Yes, he is really knowledgeable and smart, but he is also a very likable guy who does not have an agenda, a trait many admire.

Dong will be a great compliment to myself. He will not necessarily challenge guests on their opinions, but he will be able tap into his knowledge base to potentially provide different perspectives. This will be a really cool aspect of the show.

Besides my new co-host, the frequency of the show will change as well. Rappin' will no longer be a weekly live stream. It will air one time a month on the third Tuesday of every month. The show will also focus on single topics with multiple guests in a mini-panel format. And new streaming software will allow us to not only live stream the show to the ReefBum YouTube channel, but also to the ReefBum Facebook page and Instagram account!

The new show premieres on Tuesday, April 15th at 7P EST. Our guests will be Chris Meckley from ACI Aquaculture and Chris Wood from Captiv8 Aquaculture. We will be discussing how to use ICPs to help dial in trace elements. There are more great guests on the horizon!

Upcoming Rappin' With ReefBum Guests (3rd Tuesday of Every Month @7P EST)

  • 5/20/25 – Dr. Sanjay Joshi, Mike Paletta & Andrew Sandler - Future of Reef Keeping?
  • 6/17/25 – Kenny Wayne, Ali Atapour & Cris Capp - Role of LFS in Today's Reef Keeping Ecosystem
  • 7/15/25 – Kevin Burda, TSA & Dr. Alex J. Hall, Aquatic Veterinarian - Identifying, Managing & Preventing Pests

Nice, can't wait. As long as I'm awake and not drugged out from surgery Monday, I'll be tuning in, from New England Baptist Hospital.

I don't know if I have time between work and home to rewatch, but I remember hearing there was a trace supplement from Captiv8 that covered most common trace elements, is this true? Their website says there's no all in one product, but I thought he mentioned something that covers most essential traces.

I have been using this for a while now, excellent results to squeeze every drops of color out of corals.
