RBTA hiding

The River Reef

Non-member
I got a new RBTA that is heathy and attached to a rock. The same night I put him in he got off his rock and is hiding in a cave without light. Should I try and move him into the light? Worried he will stay in the shade and suffer

Mine did the same thing for a day or so. He's probably just getting used to the tank. He will move around until he finds a spot with the right light and flow. Are you water chems ok?

Leave him be. He will move when it is ready.

If longer than a week then move it out to get some light.

Leave it alone for now.

Okay, and thanks for the feedback... Here he is hiding, he came off that white small branch looking rock...

He will be fine. Just let him be. He is acclimating to your light and tank vs. his previous lighting and tank conditions.

It took my RBTA about 5 weeks to come out from hiding. Most of the time I couldn't even see it. Now, it's doing great. Hope this helps you feel better.

If he comes out and you can still see his glowing color, then he should be fine.

I got him from frank180reef and he looks great now the light is on him. Another great inhabitant from another friendly member! Love this club :)

My clown is now hosting in my RBTA, he keeps wiggling and trying to dig into it when it is closed at night. I assume this is normal and ok?

Perfectly normal behavior. Watch and enjoy, clown/anemone interactions are really cool to observe IMO/IME. Nothing to worry about at all.

Think of it as snuggling :)

So my RBTA turned into nothing when I came home from work last night... he looked like a few pieces of straw all shrunk up. I had done a water change the day before... I left him alone and he looked normal again today. What causes that? Should I be checking for something or doing anything?

pic please

they usually shrivel up at night, at least both of mine do that.
I think they compress much more than the average nem.
But they come out really full in the day.

+1 to that. Mine does the same.

Mine does compress when the lights go out... I am use to that. This was different. Its stalks were as thin as strings and it was retracted all the way to the base. If I ever see it again I will take pics.

This is normal. I got mine from Frank too a few years back. You just have to make sure it recieve enough light.
