RBTA question

dcforester1

Finally enjoying my tank
I got a RBTA from a fellow reefer about 3 weeks ago, and Im wondering if it sick. Its color is good, but might be a little light(hard to tell where he is), he wandered when I originally put him in. He has been in this spot for over a week. He is brushing up against some Anthelia, but figured if he didnt like it he wouldnt have went there. The question is everynight when I get home, his mouth is open (about the size of a nickel), I have been feeding him Krill, because he looks hungry, he takes it right away. Tonight after he ate his mouth stayed open, and some of his insides kind of swelled out. It has since gone in. Is this something I should be concerned about? All my paramaters are good. I also have a LTA that is doing fine, and has been in the tank for about 4mos. Any ideas?
TIA Derek

how often are you feeding it? if it went on walkabout, it picked a spot it is OK with light-wise

if your parameters are on, just be patient. they deflate pretty bad when they excrete waste.

a picture would be a help if you want to show us when you think it is unhappy

Best I could get, thanks Jay. I have fed him a couple of times.

Personally I think it looks fine. They like to wander the tank until they find a happy spot.

Patience is key here. If you continue to feed it regularly it will split on you which is awesome unless you have an SPS dominated tank like someone I know.

You're doing fine, hang in there.

IMO that looks quite healthy from the pic.

The open mouth thing may be from it spitting the leftovers out a little while before you got home. IME, and from advise I have heard, larger food items such as silversides (and probably krill) are a large/hard to digest meal, and often get spat out partially digested.

Personally I just squirt some frozen mysis onto my nems when I'm feeding the rest of the tank. Occasionally I see the open mouth you describe, but not often.
