RC's totm - very cool idea

Going to have to do that in the future.

I don't know how I missed that when I read the article... I prob wasn't fully awake... I'll have to attempt to do that someday...

The corals have to be pretty compatible to not do a chem warfare and kill each other. I have done this with digita and green and orange were ok most of the time, but in some spots they still killed each other where they touched and purple digi never played nice. I doubt Idaho Grape green M. Palawensis would work without one taking over the other. Worth a try though.

Good point Cindy. I bet the Idaho Grape would grow a lot faster than the Palawensis. I'll have to see if I can find a green that would be compatible.

it looks like he used two, or maybe three montipora capricornis for that, as long as they are that close, i don't see why it wouldn't work... i suppose it would even work with something comparable like a montipora digitata....

but like cindy said, they do have to be very close otherwise they will sting the crap out of each other. You can even see how in the cap he has they didn't exactly grow together, more like all of the pieces grew out, and are now touching each other, and not stinging, but it still does not look like your average cap growth.

Very cool!! Todays project has just been decided.
Tanks for the great idea!
Bill

saw the thread for when me was 1st palying around with it, he said those 2 species of montipora are the only ones he could get to play nice. any other colors he tried would declare war.

looks real nice though.

I have Sunset monti growing on top of Superman monti... it seems that the Sunset is burning the Superman.
In time I believe the Superman will weaken from the Kryptonite from the Sunset. Time will tell.

Monti caps are different - I have 4 types - green, red, purple and olive growing together in harmony.

Thanks for bringing that to the others attention....

Usually if they don't encrust onto eachother There will be a division between the two...(can be as small as a line of thread) I've done it with digis..(both of the tubs digis as a matter of fact)

The pali isn't gonna merge with a cap for sure, Laurie..

It's a great thing for people to try...Montis are quite cheap & easy to acquire as well..

I've stepped it up..

I've moved to millis now... (well the two in the tank have done it actually) I got my powder blue & yellow milli with pink coralites encrusting together) gonna wait a few months & if it takes for good I will clip that section off & put it by itself..
