Really dumb question re: MH bulbs

So I bought a brand new 24" MH fixture off of Ebay 2 weeks ago, everything was great until today - I came home and it wasn't on!

So I do a little plug switching-around, and I have determined that the bulb must have burned out? Um, hello! I've only had it 2 weeks, what's up with that?

Here's the dumb part. Where am I supposed to get a replacement bulb? It's 250W, and looks like a giant lightbulb. I don't recall ever seeing them in the store - Do they have some kind of giant lightbulb section? Do you have to ask for them at the counter?

The seller said he will send me a new one ASAP, but I don't think my tank can wait that long.

Based on the pic and description about the glass shield to protect you from UV rays, it sounds like a double-ended (DE) fixture. But you're saying that the MH bulb has the threaded metal base, much like a typical bulb? If so, then that's a single-ended bulb. Like this:

Yup! Looks like that! Do the stores carry them or do you have to order them online?

LFS will carry them, but bring money :D

If you want to wait until your ebay dude gets you a new bulb, I have a 150W MH DE pendant you can borrow......

Awww that's sweet of you Jay! That's okay though, I can always just put my T-5s back up for the week. I just thought I would pick a bulb up til then if it was feasible. But from the way you describe it... Maybe I'll just order them online :)

Paul I am loving Unique Aquaria - it's right by the in-law's house! I can go browsing while hubby visits the fam :)

Dang it!!!!! Now I will never get to go there :(

But thanks for the warning hehe I can imagine myself having not noticed that thread, and heading over there to dry tanks.
