Really, really crappy discovery......

so if you fill it and it does fail is that covered by their warranty?

But they are ok with it failing right from the factory? That is the stupidest position I have ever heard of!

interestingly, after a long conversation, the manufacturer says the tank would probably be OK to fill as it is. they crack tanks   from time to time, and they just sell them at half price. I may just take the same option :)

as the resident BRS floodmaster, someone else might be willing to try the tank, but I won't.

they also won't sell replacement trim pieces, because their opinion is that if someone else tries to repair it, it still has 'their' name on it if it fails.

So, they're worried about their reputation with repairs but not with customer service? If they repair tanks at the factory and sell them for half price you should at least get half your money back since it's obvious they repaired your tank and sold it at full price. What are the names of the manufacturer and the store where you purchased the tank? I for one am going to avoid them like the plague.

I don't know, some of the onus has to be on Jay for not inspecting it upon arrival. I realize the ultimate fault is with the manufacturer as this is a defect. However, had Jay inspected the tank completely upon arrival, he'd have more options to resolve this issue as a claim could have been filed against the shipper or a charge back issued if no one wanted to accept responsibility back then like they are now.

Hindsight is 20/20, but I bet we've all delayed opening packages to inspect them, especially when they are big and packaged so well. He probably didn't expect the project to take so long. If it's under warranty something should be done about it. The least they could do is give him some money back or send a representative out to look at it. This is not a cheap tank, and the manufacturer should have better customer service.

FWIW, the manufacturer is in the process of offering an upgraded tank at a very attractive price. It doesn't change this one, but it seems that they've gone as far as they can without admitting any liability.

What the end result will likely be is that I will be getting a break on the custom tank I initially wanted. Prior to this, when I bought THIS tank, I had decided to go with a 'stock' sized tank because I didn't want to deal with the much higher prices involved. My hand has been forced in that respect, my tank's final price will end up close to doubled, even if I wholesale this one out.

I had planned on gutting my kitchen and remodeling the whole first floor of my home...new doors, windows, insulation, etc. I had purchased stainless steel appliances; refrigerator, stove, and dishwasher from Best Buy online for excellent prices.
Then 18 months later, the kitchen is 85% complete and I had just completed plumbing the drain, supply, and garbage disposal. I opened the box to the dishwasher and low and behold the base of the unit is crushed. It looked like a pallet jack with a wooden pallet may have smashed into it because the box did not show damage. I could only open the door of the unit at a 45 degree angle.
I called Best Buy headquarters and they instructed me it was out of warranty and to contact the local store. I contacted the local store and they offered to give me the employee price which was a little more than I had originally paid in the beginning. Now I am very angry at this time but I have to complete the kitchen but have to spend another $600 or more for a product which was damaged in warehouse or in transit.
As I last resort I removed the bottom sheet metal support that was damaged so the door would fully open and used some tools modify distortion at the base. I took a shot and the dishwasher fit into the space. I took an extra piece of maple kickboard from the cabinet installation and filled in the gap on the bottom between hardwood floor and dishwasher.
Ok now what does my kitchen appliance have to do with a fish tank? I felt it was not right for me as a lonely consumer to take the hit for a big manufacturer's error and responsibility. However I realized I had absolved Best Buy for not opening the box and inspecting the appliance for 18 months. If you can get the MFR to meet you in the middle or satisfactorily right the existing tank that is probably the best that will arise from the situation. Ethically you deserve to be made whole I totally side with the consumer however legally the warranty has expired.

PS I also had purchased a 92 gallon corner tank at a once a year price more than 2 years previous to placing into my new office. Luckily tank and all associated items performed well upon installation.

That is understandable but say you dishwasher WAS under warranty and you opened it to find a defect on the INSIDE of it that could cause the dishwasher to leak and when you called to get it fixed they said no because it happened in shipping yet there was no way it could have happened in shipping and it was obvious they could see that.

There is so much nonsense and taking responsibilty in this situation that it boggles my mind, so much blame shifting that the lessons learned will be remembered for a lifetime in every purchase that I mke make.

Did the manufacturer tell you how much it would be to get the damaged panel replaced? Is it possible to replace the panel your self, as you said they will not sell you the replacement trim can you get the old trim off with out damage?

won't sell glass, won't sell trim.

I don't have confidence in my ability to get it apart without making this worse, which is why I'm selling it 'as is'. Also, my job is absurdly busy right now, and I know I wouldn't probably be able to touch it until after the first of the year. Summer = Cape, Fall = kidssports&Cape&familybirthdays&Halloweeen&Thanksgiving&ATVtrips&yard work. Then the Holidays come, and BAM, 6 months MORE have past.

I just don't want to see it EVERY time I pull into or out of my garage for the next 6 months. I don't have the space. Any reefing time I have has to be devoted to maintaining and improving the system I have
