just recently had a bloom and its all over my sandbed ive always noticed it on the plumbing of the over flow but now its worse i even see it in the cheato what are my options..also i did move one powerhead in a different direction not sure if this played a rolle but it started after that atleast i think i used rodi water for mix and in the auto top off how long does di resin last before i need to change?

Syphon out what you can. 20% water change.
Have you checked your nitrate/ phosphate levels. The only way to know when to change
DI resin is to check the water after the DI with a TDS meter.
Best answer is to lower your nutrient levels.

When was the last time that you replaced your RO filters? DI resin usually changes color when it gets depleted, but as nichols said you really need to use a TDS meter to know for sure.

Testing for phosphates may not work since the test can read 0 but you usually still have phosphates. It might be worth it just to see if you get a high reading anyways.

well i did register a high number its at 80 so tomorrow gonna do a 20 gallon water change also added another powerhead for flow i honestly belive its flow related as far as rodi the di resin is starting to turn pink i need to switch it i have a bag of resin im also due for a new membrane but its just to expensive right now

quite often it is thought to be flow related. I have not found it to be flow related in any of my battles with cyano. jmo

yeah i changed flow and 20 gallons of water and its back today im running carbon and a nitrate remover as well

Chemi-Clean Red Slime Remover.

It's 100% reef and invert safe.

I used it at the normal dosage recommend, and only one dosage, and ALL the cyano went away within 2 days and after the waterchange it NEVER came back and it's been nearly a month since.

Now if only they made a brown diatom remover...
